It’s just about impossible to pick one best new vehicle since there are so many different sizes and styles. What cars do you wish were in your driveway? What’s best for one person may not be best for another, since people want various features, interior materials, luxury options, and powertrains. Edmunds is one source of information about the best new vehicles, but then it’s interesting to hear what their readers and viewers have to say in response. Although this isn’t your typical round-up, here’s what people were saying.

Edmunds showcased the best new cars

Edmunds traveled to the LA Auto Show in December 2019 and picked out the best 2020 and 2021 vehicles. It showcased its trip on YouTube. The 32-minute video tackled the vehicles in alphabetical order by brand, running from the 2020 Audi A6 Allroad wagon to the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport.

The Edmunds reporters showed off the new vehicles from model years 2020 and 2021 at the auto show and described their best features. Altogether, the reporters covered 76 different vehicles, including cars, trucks, SUVs, and hybrids, from 27 brands. The full Edmunds ratings and rankings appear on its website, where it picks out the best sedans for 2020 and 2021 in eight categories along with 12 SUV categories and three truck categories. There are also the best hybrids in four categories. 

YouTube viewers responded

To increase online engagement, Edmunds pinned a comment it had posted on YouTube, asking, “Which car, truck or SUV would you want in your driveway?” More than 50 people responded. While Edmunds offers an expert opinion, it’s also interesting to see what vehicles regular people would like to see, or not see, in their driveways.

The most mentioned vehicle in the responses was the Tesla Cybertruck. Four people commented about wanting this one. Other popular dream vehicles were the Audi RS6 and the Porsche Taycan. A couple of people also liked the Lexus LC500, Honda Passport, Toyota RAV4, Chevrolet Corvette, BMW X5 M, Lexus RX, and Lamborghini Urus. Audi was the most desired brand mentioned by these YouTube commenters. Other popular ones were Honda, Lexus, Porsche, Tesla, and BMW.

People also commented more generally on the video, and several people didn’t like the look of any of the vehicles, finding them dull. Others thought the options were too expensive, while a few people wished that Volvo had been included in the cars reviewed list. Overall, it’s interesting to see that people wished they had everything from the practical to the exotic.

Buying a new car during the pandemic

Even if concerns about the pandemic or other issues keep you out of dealerships, there are still ways to put one of these new cars in your own driveway. Contactless vehicle purchasing has never made the process easier. Buying a car online from home can also provide buyers with easy ways to research the options and find the best deals. In addition to Edmunds, sources like Kelley Blue Book, Car and Driver, and Consumer Reports can be helpful.

It’s also easy to set up financing from home as well either through the dealership or through a bank or credit union. If you aren’t comfortable taking a car out for a test drive, some dealers will offer a video tour.
