The Cadillac SUV and crossover product cadence is in overdrive as the XT6, XT4, and XT5 will soon be hitting dealerships. Caught short-handed as consumer demands shift from cars to SUVs, Cadillac is playing catch-up to meet this trend, along with debuting new sedans making for exciting times at GM’s luxury flagship.

With the new mid-size XT5 crossover, Cadillac has consolidated XT5 models on the carryover 112.5-inch wheelbase platform to just three: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport; plus a Platinum package with added technology and interior features available in all models. While the base Luxury model is plenty nice, the Premium with the V6 option gets added bright trim and starts at $50,790, which is a significant increase in price from 2019. The Sport version comes with more aggressive chassis tuning, quicker steering, darker trim and unique interior appointments, at just over $50,000. 

Styling is a refresh of the 2019 XT5 body matching the cues found on their smaller XT4 and larger XT6, featuring a new grille and revised front and rear bumper covers. Formerly optional “Light Blade” LED headlights are now standard equipment.

Standard power comes from the new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine packing 237 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The 310-hp 3.6L V6 continues with direct injection, cylinder deactivation, camshaft phasing, and stop/start technology for enhanced fuel economy efficiency. A nine-speed automatic increases fuel economy and with those nine gears smoothes out automatic shifts. With the Sport version set to all-wheel drive, you have the added driving dynamics from the twin-clutch rear differential. This allows braking of the inside rear wheel during cornering. When not engaged the XT5 remains in front-wheel drive for comfortable driving characteristics. Wheels that are 18-inch aluminum-cast are standard on Luxury and Premium Luxury offerings, with 20-inch aluminum-cast wheels standard on Sport models and optional on others.

Inside Cadillac retains the five-passenger configuration of the traditional XT5. A new console is featured, with an improved digital gauge cluster and backup camera display. Six different color and seat configurations–all upholstered in leather, cover everything a luxury crossover buyer would want. In addition interior colors are also new for 2020.

Cadillac is doubling down on assistance technologies in all of their vehicles, with the XT5 offering better connectivity and personalization, a better rotary controller with new jog functionality, one-touch phone pairing and more, all visible on Cadillac’s standard eight-inch color touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are easily embedded into the XT5 too.

The 2020 XT5 will be hitting showrooms later this summer with prices starting at $42,960, while a Sport version with the Platinum package would sticker at $65,540. More info can be reviewed on Cadillac’s official XT5 page.
