If you’ve always had your eyes on America’s classic Corvette, there’s no better time to own one. The 2020 Stingray has finally hit the market. More than 60 years in the making, the newest entry in one of the most iconic brands of cars doesn’t look like it’s going to disappoint.

Chevrolet revealed a lot of info about its new Corvette in a press release this week, but here’s a rundown of the most important stuff.

Performance

The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette is a first of its kind for many reasons, the most important being that it’s mid-engined. This will make it the only mid-engined Corvette in the lineup, meaning a completely new driving experience.

Its mid-engine design allows the wheel to respond better to the driver. This is because they will be seated closer to the front axle, along with having improved weight distribution towards the rear. The 6.2 liter V8 has the highest acceleration rate of any Corvette – 0 to 60 mph in just under three seconds with the Z51 Performance Package.

Build

The 2020 Corvette’s central tunnel structure creates the perfect environment for the suspension system to do its job. It’s all made of high-quality aluminum, save for two carbon pieces on the rear bumper and one interior panel.

The 2020 Corvette has a lower center of gravity than its previous incarnations. Drivers will experience very little vibration even when cruising at high speeds on the track. There are no rocker panels on the doors of the car, making easier for drivers to get in or out of the cabin. Finally, no Corvette would be lacking a removable roof panel, which can easily be stored in one of the 2020 Stingray’s dual trunks.

In addition to giving drivers more stability while driving, the structure of the 2020 Corvette also greatly improves the handling. With a new eBoost brakes and better steering ratio, drivers will be able to make even more precise turns and handle the sharpest corners with ease.

Engine and transmission

Located behind the driver and easily viewed through a glass panel, the LT2 engine is optimized to give drivers the highest power (495 hp) and torque (470 lb-ft) of any entry Corvette. Every part of the engine, particularly the exhaust system, is carefully engineered to ensure maximum performance and high oil retention. The LT2’s dry sump oil system had to be tweaked to accomplish this, increasing the cooler capacity and lateral acceleration levels. 

Another unique feature to the 2020 Corvette is its new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. It has a declutch feature so that the driver can have manual control of the vehicle, letting them choose their own gear while driving. Paired with the LT2 engine, shifts are now faster and smoother than ever.

Technology

The 2020 Stingray utilizes some great new technology. Consumers now have six choices of Driver Mode, including MyMode and Z Mode. A heated steering wheel, new Bose speakers, tire fill alert, and a Performance Data Recorder dash cam are all inside the base Corvette. Infotainment features have also been improved, including a better touchscreen, wireless charging, voice recognition, and Bluetooth. 

Design

Inspired by famous racing cars and fighter jets, no other car can emulate a Corvette’s appearance. The Stingray has the famous Corvette forward stance and a concealed door, hatch, and hood latches to make the design even more aesthetically pleasing. It also features LED headlamps and taillamps.

The interior is just as impressive. It’s decorated with the most high-quality metal and leather materials. Drivers can even choose between a wide variety of themes and colors for the inside of the vehicle, even down to the stitching and seat belt details.
