If this is legit we’ve got some interesting performance numbers for the new C8 Corvette. Corvette Forum says one of its members was able to photograph some pages from a Corvette engineer’s list of specifications and performance results. Since Chevy is still sweetening the C8 before production begins we can’t confirm that these numbers are preliminary or the final word. Either way, it’s a fun look at what we can possibly expect for the 2020 Corvette.

Quarter Mile Times

The quarter-mile time was listed at 11.3 seconds at 121 mph. We don’t know how this car was optioned or whether it was something like a Z06 or other performance variant. With this type of interest and scrutiny, you’d think that now Chevy might just release official numbers. But we digress…

Top speed came in at 193 mph, which is assumed to be for the base model. 0-to-60 mph time was 2.9 seconds and 3.0-flat for the Z51 and base models respectively. 0-to-100 mph is listed at 7.6 seconds.

Engine Packages

In a separate posting, another Corvette Forum member revealed a spreadsheet of three engine and engine/hybrid packages along with their numbers. We can’t say whether these are based off early performance goals or actual, tested numbers. Take a look:

This list is for three different engines: the 6.2-liter LT2, the 5.5-liter, 32-valve LT6, and 5.5-liter LT7.  

We’re seeing a difference between the stated 490 hp at 465 lb-ft vs. the list’s 469 hp and 515 lb-ft torque. Another discrepancy is the Grand Sport appears to have more horsepower than the base model which hasn’t been seen since the C4 Corvette. It’s also worth noting that there are fewer LT2 engines listed than what Chevy originally spelled out in media presentations given out at the time of the launch.

G’s and Stopping Distances

Lateral g-force was listed at 1.0 g for the Z51 package and 0.9 g for the base model. 0-to-60 mph stopping distance was 115.1 feet for a base model and for the Z51 package distance dropped to 108.4 feet. 

Another image from the list is for curb weight info. The coupe comes in at 3,535 lbs going up just a tad to 3,577 lbs for a Z51 coupe. The convertible bumps that a bit more to 3,637 lbs. 

More info like the drag coefficient of 0.32, the weight distribution of 40/60, and the engine redlines at 6,600 rpm give better overall numbers.  We even get to see the front and rear tire/wheel sizes listed at 245/35-19x8x5x52 for the front and 305/30-20x11x64 for the rear. 

Everyone seems thirsty for everything 2020 Corvette so this just adds to the hype and speculation. We’re hoping for more from Chevy soon, but for now, these numbers give a glimpse of the incredible performance the C8 Corvette is capable of. 

With production not ready to begin until the end of 2019 Chevy has some time left to get its final adjustments ready for official numbers. And it’s typical of companies to hold back some info to help increase interest and give marketing and advertising some last tidbits of info on the car to hype before it hits the street.
