The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2020 Chevrolet Impala an overall safety rating of five out of five stars. Critically, it’s the driver seat crashworthiness rating that lost one star. But it was a five-star rating for the rear passenger.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2020 Impala top marks in most categories. However, it garners an “Acceptable” rating in the driver-side front overlap crash test. Also, like many other sedans from the time, the headlight rating was “Poor.” It may not have been a Top Safety Pick+, but it’s still one of the safer American large sedans.
