In fact, Car and Driver experts love the 2020 Colorado so much it received a great 8.5/10 rating. Experts at Edmunds score it with a more average rating of 7.6/10. But Consumer Reports’ review of the new Colorado is even farther across the spectrum, receiving an extremely-low overall score of 37/100.

So what’s with the varying degrees of scoring? Why do some reviewers love the Chevrolet Colorado and others do not? Is there anything the experts agree on?

Some love the Chevy Colorado, but others really disagree

Car and Driver experts found the 2020 Chevy Colorado to be a favorite in the segment, calling it a “four-wheeled shape-shifter, with the ability to adapt and excel” to almost any task. Praising its versatility, but also practicality, Car and Driver experts don’t seem to mind its lower-quality interior and lack of modern driver-assist features as much. Its affordable base price and wide range of body configurations, trims, and options help meet “the needs of a wide range of buyers.”

Excitement for the new Colorado is a bit milder from the experts at Edmunds. It receives average scoring across the board but made its way into experts’ hearts for a few reasons. Unlike other experts, Edmunds’ finds the Colorado’s interior be in line with segment expectations and comfortable on highway trips. According to Edmunds’ experts, the 2020 Chevy Colorado’s should be considered a true value, with a base price that’s “competitive for the segment” and an impressive warranty.

Experts at Consumer Reports rank the 2020 Chevy Colorado at the bottom of the compact truck barrel, placing it at fifth-place, only behind the GMC Canyon and the untested Nissan Frontier. In fact, its 37/100 overall score is one of the lowest across all new vehicles in any segment.

The new Colorado only receives a 61/100 on the road test, with Consumer Reports experts noting that the small truck’s “ride is stiff and choppy,” the engine is short on power, and the interior is uncomfortable. Simply put, both its design and performance feel cheaply made. This helped the Colorado earn a low predicted owner satisfaction score of two (out of five) and an even lower predicted reliability rating of only one.

The 2020 Chevy Colorado: what to believe

All the experts seem to agree that the Chevrolet Colorado’s optional diesel engine is impressive for its class. Not only is the option itself exclusive for the compact truck class, but also leads the way in towing capabilities and fuel-efficiency. Many rivals in the segment fail to offer the multiple powertrain and configurations buyers can find with the Chevy Colorado.

Although the Chevy Colorado may not offer world-class interior features, it is one of the most affordable vehicles in the segment– getting the job done, at an affordable price.
