If you’re on the list for a 2020 Corvette we don’t feel too sorry for you. But be aware that if your order gets bumped to a 2021 Corvette you’ll have to pay more for certain options. That’s because those options have increased year-over-year. That’s how GM rolls lately. Just because you ordered your car at a certain price doesn’t mean that price will be honored come delivery time. We get it, GM has had a rough time getting 2020 Corvettes out of the gate. But there should be enough margin to absorb some of that price increase. For that, we feel for you. But the bottom line is C8 Corvette owners bumped to 2021 will pay more than they originally committed to. 

If you bought the Z51 performance option you’ll pay about a thousand dollars more

Chevy is keeping the base price of the 2021 Corvette the same as 2020 which is commendable. That price is $59,995 in case you forgot. But if you bought the Z51 performance option you’ll pay about $1 thousand more. The price got bumped from $5,000 to $5,995. There are, however, some other increases as well. 

The Front Lift system raises the ride height and got raised itself. Priced at $1,495 it has risen to $1,995. Apparently, both of these Corvette options are very popular. Chevy is taking advantage of their popularity. 

GM Authority was able to get the official word from Chevrolet in case there was any doubt. GM confirmed to GMA, “As we announced in May, we were holding the base price of the Corvette Coupe and Convertible the same for 2021. We did adjust the pricing for a few options, including the Z51, and those price increases will be in place on all 2021s.” 

There are still other options that are seeing a price hike

There are still other options that are seeing a price hike. The black Trident Spoke Wheels go up from $2,695 to $2,895. Carbon Fiber Mirror Covers get a hike to $1,245 from $1,145. The All-Weather Floor Liners went up by $10. 

On a good note you probably can change exterior and interior colors because there are some new color options. And Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard on the new 2021 Corvettes. So, the Lord taketh and the Lord giveth. 

Some time in November the line will kick over to 2021 production

Chevrolet announced a while back that it would extend 2020 Corvette production through October to try and fulfill as many 2020 orders as it can. But some time in November the line will kick over to 2021 production, and that will be it for the storied 2020 C8s. And it has been storied.

There have been painful launches in Chevy’s past like the 1965 Impalas and 1970 Camaros. But the 2020 Corvette was a special case not so much because of the GM UAW strike back in September but because of COVID-19. No one could have predicted this at the beginning of 2020. But there are those that won’t have the privilege of ordering anything after contracting the coronavirus. So be thankful that we all can live to see the 2021 Corvette.
