Ford’s Edge SUV has been around for years and evolved to become a very popular choice for those wanting a midsize SUV. Since so many 2020 models are coming off of leases, we wanted to look at reviews on consumer sites to see how it ranked, and what owners had to say. We went to Cars.com, Consumer Reports, and Edmunds for some answers to the question, “Is the 2020 Ford Edge a good SUV?

“Buyers looking for a midsize SUV that’s a little nicer than the mainstream choices without a budget-busting price will find plenty to like in the 2020 Ford Edge. It’s tight and controlled on the road and drives much like a sedan. The quietness of its cabin and the expansive passenger and cargo space is impressive, and it has one of the roomiest interiors in its class.

“With a spacious cabin, expansive cargo capacity, and strong Sync 3 infotainment system, the Edge has a lot to offer midsize-SUV shoppers. Some may find the ride a bit jittery, and the cabin fit-and-finish on higher trim levels doesn’t quite match the near-luxury price, but overall the Edge is a well-executed car that earns its place among the top mainstream SUVs.

“While the Edge SE is well-equipped, we’d still stretch for the SEL anyway to get its power-adjustable front passenger seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and upgraded upholstery.”

“I would recommend the AWD over FWD, the car just drives a lot better. The car is comfortable smooth and roomy for passengers. The interior is one of the best of any SUV, it gives the feel of a luxury car without the luxury price.”

“Second edge we have purchased – got great price. The ride is great, quiet, and the engine, though 4-cylinder, has good pick up even out of Sport mode. The mileage seems pretty good, it has very comfortable seats, is roomy, and safety features are great. The tech features are wonderful and easy to use. The interior seems more upscale than some competitors.”

“Ford has sharpened the Edge’s performance, improving acceleration and fuel economy. The automaker also has made key safety features standard across the model range—a move that we applaud. It remains a pleasant, well-rounded vehicle that is distinguished by handling agility, steady ride, quiet interior, and an overall premium feel. We recommend going with the SEL trim for the Sync 3 infotainment system, 10-way power driver’s seat, rear parking sensors, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Buyers can almost equip an SEL to a Titanium level without the latter’s larger wheels and tires.

“The 250-hp, 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine is surprisingly energetic and refined. It delivers smooth, steady power. Not only does the Edge feel very satisfying in everyday driving, but its 7.7-second 0-60 mph acceleration is on par with some V6-powered rivals. The eight-speed automatic is unobtrusive most of the time, but sometimes low-speed shifts are clunky. We measured 22 mpg overall with our Edge SEL AWD. This is an improvement of one mpg over the last Edge we tested. But that figure matches some V6-powered SUVs. An impressive 2.7-liter V6 turbo is reserved exclusively for the high-performance ST trim.”
