If you’re looking for a well-mannered, midsize SUV, the Ford Edge and the Nissan Murano are among the most popular picks. Respected critics rank the Edge and the Murano near each in the 2020 midsize SUV class. But which would you prefer?

The Murano is a comfortable, everyday type of ride. Critics like Consumer Reports recognize the Murano for its unique style, which sets it apart from its boxy competitors. This Nissan comes with a 260-hp 3.5-liter V6 engine and a smooth, continuously variable transmission.

You’ll find that the Murano provides sufficient power and that it accelerates well. But while the Murano has sporty looks, it doesn’t offer a sporty driving experience. CR also notes that the Murano’s vague steering may diminish a driver’s confidence and that its CVT isn’t for everyone. Despite this, CR still recommends this SUV because of its power and decent fuel economy.

The 2020 Ford Edge serves up more flavor

The Ford Edge is another recommended choice by CR. In fact, the Edge earned a few more points in CR’s road test than the Murano. With the Edge, you get a more dynamic driving experience and two peppy engine choices.

The Edge’s base engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 250-hp. Most drivers will be pleased with this engine because it’s quick and efficient. An eight-speed automatic is standard. There’s also the performance-oriented Edge ST variant that has a 335-hp, twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 engine. Although, the Edge ST is significantly more expensive than the standard version, so some question if it’s worth it.

Which SUV has a nicer cabin?

The Edge and the Murano have a few similarities on the inside. Both can comfortably seat five people and have generous cargo space. These two SUVs also come with a long list of standard features, including an 8-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The Edge and the Murano also please with many standard active safety features, including forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking. There is some give and take here, though. For example, the Edge comes standard with rear parking sensors while the Murano does not. The Murano has a driver drowsiness function, which’s not available as an option on the Edge.

The interior of the Ford Edge is comfy and inviting.

We’d say that Murano offers a more serene cabin experience compared to the Edge because of its remarkably comfortable Zero Gravity seats. The Murano also has nicer finishings than the Edge. Some may not like that the Edge’s interior is heavy on the plastic. Although, the Edge has better outward visibility than the Murano.

Deciding between the Edge and the Murano

Choosing between the Edge and the Murano comes to personal preference. Both are generally dependable vehicles, and they aren’t too far off in price. But if you want a more athletic driving experience, the Edge is the better choice. If your main priority is comfort, go with the Murano.
