The Ford F-Series offers some of the best-selling trucks in the U.S. These trucks, including the Ford F-150, are versatile enough to be everything from a basic work truck to a solid luxury cruiser. They have impressive hauling and towing numbers and lots of other great, innovative features too.

But like anything else, Ford’s F-Series trucks aren’t perfect. One recent model year has a pretty significant problem that owners should be aware of. What is the problem and in which model year is it showing up?

Does the 2020 Ford F-150 have electrical problems?

According to consumer site CarComplaints.com, the 2020 Ford F-150 models have pretty significant electrical system problems. That the problems are occurring in such a recent truck is alarming.

That the problems are occurring before the truck makes it to 3,000 miles is a big concern. According to CarComplaints.com, the problems reported are happening on average around 2,285 miles. On the one to 10 severity scale CarComplaints.com uses to rate problems, they gave 2020 F-150’s electrical problem a nine for “pretty bad.”

The issue is causing a wide array of problems for 2020 Ford F-150 truck owners. There are problems with camera systems, power door locks, the battery charging system, and more. 

It’s a frustrating situation for truck owners who are reporting that they have no choice but to take their vehicles to the dealer for repairs. They wait weeks for the repair and once they get the trucks back, the problems remain.

What owners are saying about the Ford F-150’s problem

One New York owner reported that they took their truck to the dealer for such problems three times in the first five months they owned their truck. The problems centered around the front camera. After three trips to the dealer, Ford replaced the camera which the owner said still didn’t work. 

The owner said in researching the problem, they’d found many similar complaints. Other people who owned a 2020 Ford F-150 had problems with the front camera as they had. They saw complaints where other owners had problems with the side and rear cameras too. The owner explained many of them had gone through the same routine they had where nothing ended up working in the end.

Another owner in Alabama said their backup camera stopped working within days of buying the truck. They also reported that the remote wouldn’t open the driver’s side door. It could only be opened with a key or manually. 

They said when they contacted the dealership to schedule an appointment, they were told the scheduled repair would take place in the next few weeks not days.

A Texas owner experienced trouble within five days and 355.7 miles of buying their truck. A message alerted them to problems with the charging system. 

But it’s a new truck

Pickup trucks today are expensive, and there are expectations that come along with those hefty price tags. It must be disheartening for someone to buy the 2020 Ford F-150 only to start having problems with it days after purchase.

Some of the problems brought about by the electrical system problems are minor. If you can still unlock the door with a key or lock it with your hand, it’s disappointing but livable. 

Camera systems on trucks, however, are there to offer safety. They help the driver when backing up or in other maneuvers so they don’t hit other cars, buildings, or people. The camera systems are also highly useful for towing jobs.

Nobody’s perfect, and as popular as the Ford F-Series is, it still has its problems. We can only hope that Ford deals with this one pretty quickly. Electrical system problems in a truck can lead to a whole host of problems for the driver and its occupants. And having problems pop up on trucks within days of purchase isn’t going to do anything positive for Ford’s reputation.
