2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited High Altitude: Most Expensive Model Made
It looks like Jeep wants to take the Wrangler way upmarket with the “Unlimited High Altitude.” Is this Escalade territory? Probably not, but the High Altitude package is estimated to put the Wrangler at just shy of $50-Big. That gives it a high altitude price of $9,100 more than the Unlimited Sahara which tops $40,000. The Sahara Altitude was formerly the Wrangler’s plush package with gloss black bits and black leather interior. However, the breakdown of what you get for your $50,000 takes Jeep into unchartered territory.
What catches your eye for the Unlimited High Altitude package first are the 20-inch wheels
What catches your eyes first are the 20-inch gloss-black wheels. These give the Unlimited High Altitude a wider track, with Jeep giving the Dana 44 rear end a revised final gear ratio. All-season tires get wrapped around the 20s. Besides big wheels, the High Altitude gets LED lighting, side steps, and a “Trail Rated” badge with a matte black finish.
The upscale look is enhanced with body-color exterior mirrors, fenders, door handles, and three-piece “Freedom Top” hardtop. The Freedom Top allows for the roof panels above the front seat occupant and driver to be removed.
A new Steel Grey leather interior has been added to the black leather
Inside the leather comes in either black or Steel Grey. But if you opt for the grey you’ll have to wait for later in the year before it’s available. Jeep lavishes the interior with more leather than just the seats. The steering wheel gets Nappa leather wrapping that is quilted in Caramel stitching.
The instrument panel mid-bolsters, shift knob, and shifter boot also sees leather wrapping with more caramel stitching. Light black-chrome gauge bezels are unique replacing the gloss black from last year’s Sahara Altitude cosmetic package.
Some safety features have been added to this Wrangler model
On the safety side of things the 8.4-inch Uconnect unit now has some additions. Premium Audio, as well as ParkSense, blind-spot detection, Rear Cross Path Detection, and remote keyless entry, are all part of the Safety Group.
Jeep is beginning to crowd its lineup with the myriad models and trim packages. The Unlimited High Altitude package shares Wrangler space with the Rubicon Recon, Freedom, Black and Tan, Willys, North Edition, Sahara Altitude, Sport Altitude, and High Altitude.
Paint options are very limited but sophisticated to help differentiate the Unlimited High Altitude from its lesser siblings. These colors include Billet Silver, Bright White, Ocean Blue Metallic, Black, and Granite Crystal Metallic. See what we mean?
Will there even be a 2020 Wrangler Unlimited High Altitude model?
Jeep intended for the Wrangler Unlimited High Altitude to be shuffling out about this time. However, with the factory shutdowns due to the coronavirus crisis, it could mean this Wrangler won’t be available until the 2021 models are unveiled. No prices are listed on Jeeps website so nothing concrete exists right now.
Since you can’t individually option a Wrangler from the factory without this model’s unique features you can either wait or pick up an Unlimited Sahara and then use the aftermarket for most of what’s missing.
