2020 Porsche Macan Turbo Revealed with 435 HP
Back for 2020 is the Porsche Macan Turbo with more power and improved braking from the previous version.
Power
The new engine replaces the previous 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6. It is the capable 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 used in the Panamera and Cayenne. The 2.9 comes through with 435 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. The top track speed is 167 mph and 0-to-60 times are a blistering 4.3 seconds. If you opt for the Sport Chrono package that time ramps up to 4.1 seconds.
The Porsche Traction Management all-wheel-drive gets turned by a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. New 20-inch Turbo wheels replace the former 19-inch wheels. Porsche Active Suspension Management dampers are standard with an optional height-adjustable air suspension with improved functionality.
Brakes
Optional Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus smoothes out the bumps and the Porsche Surface Coated Brakes offer for the first time a longer life and cut down brake dust by 90%.
How? Porsche coats each of the rotors with an ultra-hard layer of tungsten carbide which besides virtually eliminating all of the brake dust it provides a crisper pedal response. Initially, the rotor surface will be white, but after the initial driving period they take on a mirror-like finish. You can also order the optional carbon-ceramic brakes.
The once-optional Sport Exhaust system is now standard, as are 20-inch Turbo wheels.
Outside you can tell this is the new 2020 Macan with its new fascia with those three large air intakes and the dual strip LED fog lights. Both the side skirts and Sport Design mirrors are now coated in body color. The fixed rear roof spoiler is also new and unique to the Turbo model.
The Turbo Macan’s interior offers more features to distinguish from non-Turbo models. The Alcantara headliner, 18-way adjustable Sport Seats, and 665-watt, 14-speaker Bose sound system are all standard. Porsche Communication Management is incorporated into the HD touchscreen on the dash, Qi inductive phone charging along with other phone and Wi-Fi features come with the free one-year Porsche Connect subscription service.
Best Selling Porsche?
Macan sales represent over one-third of all Porsche production, so this is an important model for them. It outsells both the 911 and Cayenne, and in 2017 was Porsche’s best selling model. In July 2018 Porsche announced they sold more than 350,000 Macans worldwide since 2014. In China, over 100,000 Macans have been sold. It first went on sale in the US in the spring of 2014 as a 2015 model.
Minor updates were made with the 2016 model, and again in 2019. It shares its platform with the Audi Q5, with the engine, transfer case, suspension tuning and some suspension bits, interior, and body sheet metal all unique to the Macan.
For comparison, the Macan is almost two inches longer than its sister Audi Q5 and almost one and one-half-inches wider. Macans are produced at the modern Leipzig, Germany, plant alongside the larger Cayenne SUV and Panamera sedan.
The 2020 Macan Turbo will make it to dealers toward the end of 2019 starting at $83,600. Fuel economy estimates have yet to be determined.
