While some EVs are affordable for everyone, other EVs are more expensive and luxurious. The 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S is one of those expensive and luxurious EVs, and it has the power and performance to compete with the best. However, the 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S can’t overtake its Tesla counterpart just yet. 

The pros and cons of the 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S

Off the bat, since the Taycan 4S is a Porsche, it’s not going to be cheap. It has a starting price tag of over $100,000, according to Car and Driver. On top of that, it can be pretty expensive to properly equip the Taycan 4S, as the one Car and Driver drove cost over $140,000. Regardless, it’s a very capable car.

It comes with all-wheel drive, two electric motors, and a 71-kWh battery pack. There is also a roughly $6,600 upgrade option that will give the Taycan 4S an 83.7-kWh battery instead. When properly equipped, those motors give the Taycan 4S about 562 hp, as well as a max range of about 227 miles. 

That’s not a lot of range, but at least the Taycan 4S is as fast as any other Porsche. Car and Driver wrote that it can go from 0 to 60 MPH in about 3.4 seconds. On top of that, it also handles quite well, and, at least according to Car and Driver, it’s a stylish car with a well-made interior.

The pros and cons of the 2021 Tesla Model S

While the Porsche Taycan 4S can get pretty expensive, the Tesla Model S is a significantly more affordable car than the Porsche. Car and Driver tested the Model S Long Range Plus, which is the base version of the Model S nowadays. The Model S costs slightly more than $70,000, which means that customers could, technically speaking, buy two Model S for the price they could spend on a well-equipped Taycan 4S. 

As far as power and performance go, the Tesla is also pretty great. The Model S also has two motors and combined, they provide about 557 hp. The Model S, however, has a 103.9-kWh battery, and this huge battery gives the Model S a longer range. That battery gives the Model S just over 400 miles of estimated range, according to Car and Driver, and that’s simply impressive for an EV.

Despite the bigger battery, the Model S is pretty quick, as it can go from 0 to 60 MPH in 3.5 seconds. However, the Model S isn’t a perfect car, as Car and Driver wasn’t impressed by its interior. Car and Driver said that the Model S, like other Teslas, have a “poor fit and finish,” as well as “bland steering.” 

The Tesla Model S clearly beats the Porsche Taycan 4S

Although the Porsche Taycan 4S clearly has the nicer interior, very few people buy cars just for how fancy they are on the inside. Most people just look at the numbers, and when it comes to the numbers, the Tesla Model S completely dominates the Taycan 4S. 

Not only is the Model S significantly more affordable, but it’s also significantly more practical. While the Porsche Taycan 4S’s range is enough for city driving, the Model S’s range allows it to do far more on a single charge. Furthermore, Car and Driver said that due to how many Tesla Superchargers there are, recharging the Model S is simply going to be easier.

Another area where Tesla wins is in space. Car and Driver said that the Model S has 28 cu. ft. of total cargo capacity, while the Taycan 4S only has 16 cu. ft. As such, while the Taycan 4S may be better on the track, the Model S is simply better in real life.
