Cadillac recently announced its efforts to go electric in the near future. To that end, they provided a sneak peek at the Lyriq SUV earlier this week. But, Cadillac still makes luxury cars driven by internal combustion engines. So, the automaker will not let ICE cars go away without first providing a high-end opportunity for its customers. That opportunity is an upgraded trim package for the mid-size 2021 CT5 model.

The Diamond Sky Special Edition will not be available on other Cadillacs

According to our friends at Cadillac Society, the new package will be called the Diamond Sky Special Edition. It will be a package exclusive to the 2021 Cadillac CT5. The package has several upgrades for the interior, as well for the exterior. No mention has been made of any special engine tuning.

2021 Cadillac CT5 interior changes

The 2021 Cadillac CT5 will have several changes inside the cabin when equipped with the Diamond Sky Special Edition. The interior will be Sky Cool Gray in color with jet black accents. Alloy pedals will be present. There will also be Diamond Fall seat perforations and Galaxy wood trim. Initial indications are that the special package will only be available with the climate package. So, look for each of these equipped luxury cars to have heated and ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel.

The exterior of the Diamond Sky Special Edition

The exterior of the CT5 will receive a Diamond Sky Metallic paint. Sadly no pictures of the car in this color are available yet. Wheels will be 19″ alloys with Diamond Cut/Midnight Silver finish but are upgradeable to 20” polished units. Moldings, extensions, and the rear diffuser will all receive the special matching paint. The rear taillights will also receive a gray tint, and the brakes have been upgraded. A blue hue will accent the calipers.

The 2020 CT5 model was all-new. It arrived with a bolder grille, more prominent LED accent lights, thinner headlights, and T-shaped taillights. Inside, it received a cleaner approach center stack with fewer buttons. Since it was such a fresh introduction, the 2021 model year CT5s will keep all the key design elements. However, the Diamond Sky Special Edition will dress them up a bit. It will be available for order early in the 2021 model year.

The available engines for the Cadillac CT5

A 2.0-liter turbo, four-cylinder will be the base engine. It pumps out 237 horsepower. The next step up is the 3.0-liter twin-turbo, six-cylinder powerplant. It reaches 335 horsepower. Both engines are mated to the same ten-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is available. Otherwise, the CT5 is rear-wheel drive.

It is not known how long it will be before the CT5 model is converted to an electric powerplant. It is also conceivable that the CT5 will run out its course as an internal combustion engine machine and then be laid to rest in favor of another, newer, all-electric Cadillac. But, while it is here amongst us, the 2021 Cadillac CT5 with the Diamond Sky Special Edition package should prove to be a fine, luxury automobile that anyone would be proud to own.
