Good is the highest rating you can earn in these tests. It’s like the SUV received an A, but not an A+. The Blazer missed out on earning the Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ awards due to its headlights.
To earn the Top Safety Pick title, a vehicle must be available with headlights that receive a good or acceptable rating. For the Top Safety Pick+ award, those headlights must be available on each trim level.
The Chevy Blazer has three different headlight options:
- LED projector headlights with high beam assist.
- HID projector headlights with high beam assist.
- HID projector headlights without high beam assist.
The LED projector headlights received a marginal rating because the high beams provide a weak illumination around curves. The HID projector headlights received a poor rating for weak illumination and excessive glare. Marginal is basically like receiving a D, while the poor rating is like an F. So if you don’t like driving at night, this may be something to consider.
What safety features come with the 2021 Blazer?
While the 2021 Chevy Blazer isn’t a Top Safety Pick, its rivals are. The 2021 Ford Edge, 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe, and 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan each come with standard AEB headlights to earn the award.
But the Blazer does include safety features such as automated emergency braking, automatic high-beams, front pedestrian detection, and lane-keeping assistance. These features are included in the Safety Assist package, which comes standard on the 2LT, 3LT, RS, and Premier trims.
But the L trim is the base model. The 2021 Blazer begins at about $28,800, and the LT trim starts at around $32,300. So these features cost a pretty penny to add. But that automatic emergency braking system can avoid collisions at 25 mph. Other optional safety features include adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning.
Is the 2021 Blazer a good SUV?
Despite not being the safest option and lacking standard safety features, the 2021 Chevy Blazer is still a good SUV. You can upgrade the interior to feel like a luxurious Chevy Camaro with heated and ventilated seats and a climate control system. Mid-level trims use plastic materials, but you can upgrade to a higher trim for premium leather surfaces.
The rear seats are large enough for adult passengers to be comfortable. Plus, the Blazer comes with a standard 8-inch touchscreen that’s compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. USB ports are everywhere, and certain models also include a 120-volt outlet.
The Blazer provides a smooth and quiet ride over bumps. It’s pretty sporty, too, with a quick acceleration, responsive feedback, and steady composure. While front-wheel drive comes standard, you can add all-wheel drive.
