The 2021 Chevy Silverado and Suburban Are Facing Major Delays
Oh no! Semiconductor chips strike again. Your 2021 Chevy Silverado or Suburban might be delayed. Now Mother Nature has joined the mix to cause more concerns. See why your new Chevrolet Suburban or Silverado might be delivered on time.
The 2021 Chevy Silverado and Suburban face delays
According to Torque News, the world-wide semiconductor chip shortage has been slowing the production of popular vehicles including the 2021 Chevy Suburban, Tahoe, and Silverado.
The GMC Sierra and Yukon face delays as well. General Motors slowed the production of these vehicles at some plants to conserve the number of semiconductor chips for those profitable vehicles.
Now Mother Nature is making things worse. Texas is struggling with insane winter weather that’s causing rolling blackouts. Plus, the Midwest is battling bone-chilling cold and snow. These conditions have forced GM to cancel shifts in the Arlington, Texas, plant. This plant produces the 2021 Suburbans, Tahoes, and Yukons.
Arlington is still facing rolling blackouts as the Texas power grid continues to struggle in these unusually cold and snowy conditions. The wind turbines that produce a majority of Texas’ power supply are unable to function because their blades are frozen.
Drones are being used in an attempt to de-ice the blades, but more cold weather is on the way. Temperatures may not return to above freezing until Friday. But even if the plants can restart, many workers may still be stuck at home, trying to get their heat back on.
They also may need to repair damages caused by frozen pipes are other factors. Texan homes aren’t built with the proper infrastructure and insulation to protect against the frigid cold. Plus, the roads are covered in snow and ice, creating dangerous conditions to drive in.
Can the Silverado be built in other states?
Yes, there are other plants that build GM trucks such as the 2021 Chevy Silverado. However, the huge plant in Fort Want, Indiana, has been temporarily closed due to the large amount of snow that hammered the Chicago area.
Some regions got over 18-inches of snow, so managers have been canceling shifts as it has become too dangerous to travel. Another plant in Tenessee that produces engines for the Silverado, Tahoe, and more has been closed due to weather too.
These shutdowns are rare, but so are these unusual winter conditions in the south. Some Texas cities don’t even have snow plows. The shutdowns have already caused minor delays. But GM may cancel holiday and summer breaks to make up for the lost production time.
Which General Motors trucks are delayed?
It’s difficult to determine which vehicles are facing delays at the moment. The most popular options such as the Chevy Silverado, Suburban, and Tahoe will be the top priority.
Other plants that build smaller vehicles have been idled to conserve semiconductor chips for the most popular options. According to GM Authority, 2021 model year vehicles were already struggling with delays due to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVD-19) outbreak.
Options like the Chevy Bolt, Silverado, GMC Sierra, and more were supposed to be redesigned in 2021. However, now they have been pushed back to 2022. US vehicle sales have already dropped by 55-percent, as building redesigned vehicles have been delayed to build 2021 models.
