2021 Chevy Tahoe vs. 2021 Nissan Armada: Which Large SUV Is Right For You?
Shopping for a large SUV? Both the 2021 Chevy Tahoe and the 2021 Nissan Armada offer a wealth of interior space. Each SUV also provides plenty of power under the hood. But when it really comes down to it, which of these large SUVs is the right fit for you? Let’s find out.
2021 Chevy Tahoe vs. 2021 Nissan Armada: What’s under the hood?
Both of these large SUVs come standard with a V8 engine under the hood. However, it’s the 2021 Nissan Armada that offers more standard horsepower. Driven by a 5.6-liter V8 engine, this year’s model can churn out an impressive 400-hp. The 2021 Chevy Tahoe, on the other hand, comes equipped with a 5.3-liter V8 engine that’s only able to deliver 355-hp.
Fortunately, the Chevy Tahoe does offer additional engine options to choose from. Pick from a 420-hp 6.2-liter ECOTEC3 V8 with Dynamic Fuel Management. And if you’d prefer a diesel-powered SUV? Consider a Tahoe equipped with Chevy’s available DURAMAX 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine.
Unfortunately for Nissan shoppers, this year’s Armada isn’t available with a diesel engine. In fact, its standard V8 engine is the only available option.
2021 Chevy Tahoe vs. 2021 Nissan Armada: Which large SUV offers more space?
There’s no denying that the 2021 Nissan Armada and the 2021 Chevy Tahoe are both large SUVs. Naturally, you can assume then that both offer copious amounts of interior space. That is true, too. Both SUVs feature three rows of seating, along with plenty of space for passengers. But, when comparing the two large SUVs, it’s the Chevy Tahoe that offers more front and third-row headroom, along with more overall leg and shoulder space.
The Chevy Tahoe doesn’t just have the edge when it comes to passenger space, either. It also offers up significantly more cargo space than this year’s new Nissan Armada. While the Tahoe boasts 25.5 cubic feet of cargo volume, Kelley Blue Book reports that the Armada only offers up 16.5 cubic feet of cargo volume.
2021 Chevy Tahoe vs. 2021 Nissan Armada: Is one SUV safer than the other?
If you’re shopping for a large SUV for your family, chances are you’re considering safety features and ratings. Fortunately, both of these large SUVs come well-stocked with sought-after safety features.
The 2021 Chevy Tahoe is standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision alerts, front pedestrian braking, a following distance indicator, and automatic high beams. Meanwhile, the Armada is standard with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, rear cross-traffic alerts, blind spot warnings, lane departure warnings, and high beam assist.
And when it comes to safety ratings? The NHTSA gave this year’s Tahoe a four-star overall safety rating. Unfortunately, the NHTSA hasn’t rated the 2021 Nissan Armada yet, but last year’s model earned a similar four-star overall safety rating.
2021 Chevy Tahoe vs. 2021 Nissan Armada: Which large SUV is more affordable?
Chances are, you’re not looking to break the bank with your next vehicle purchase. It’s important to understand then how much each of these SUVs costs. The good news is that the 2021 Chevy Tahoe is more affordable than the Nissan Armada. While a base Nissan Armada will have you spending over $52,000, this year’s Tahoe boasts a base price under $50,000.
