Looking for speed, but fear you’ll be confined to larger vehicles that have no get up and go? A few years ago, that was a major problem. You either chose a sedan model with speed and crammed your family in the back, or you broke down and got an SUV or van that took 15 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. Those days are over, thanks in large part to the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. It’s got the best of both worlds and looks great doing it.

The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is a beast

MotorTrend took the Durango Hellcat out for a spin on the track just to see how it performed. Let’s just say that it didn’t disappoint.

The Durango SRT Hellcat was able to go from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.4 seconds. The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is actually 0.3 seconds slower, and it carries less weight. The Durango SRT Hellcat gets even better, though.

MotorTrend was able to get the Durango SRT Hellcat up to 100 mph in 8.4 seconds. On the quarter-mile stretch, it took 11.7 seconds to reach 117.3 mph.

This is all thanks to the Hellcat engine, of course. The supercharged OHV 16-valve V8 gets 710 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque. To make the Durango SRT Hellcat even more attractive is the fact that it has all-wheel drive. You won’t find that on too many sports cars.

MotorTrend couldn’t get enough of this high-powered SUV

It takes a lot to really impress a reviewers that have been at this for years, but the 2021 Durango SRT Hellcat did just that. It’s just a fun ride that you don’t typically find in such a large SUV. Its powerful driving dynamics are attractive for both critics and consumers alike.

MotorTrend is truly psyched about this latest edition to the Dodge family, and stated, “Is it wrong that every time we fired up the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat, we got a vivid mental image of our entire family screaming while we attacked a decreasing radius off-ramp, a gleeful cackle on our lips as the Dodge’s rear end hung out wide? It takes serious restraint—restraint that we’re not sure we have—not to antagonize passengers with this 710-hp, SUV-shaped mass driver. Or perhaps it would thrill them—your passengers might be more amenable to physics experiments than some of ours. Either way, do everybody a favor and ask first.”

Is the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat the SUV for you?

With so many vehicles on the market, it can be tough to decide which one you want. With the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat, it’s an easy decision.

If you’re looking for a three-row SUV that comes with AWD and has the heart of a sports car, then the Durango is for you. It’s the perfect family vehicle for anyone who doesn’t want to give up their fun just because they have a family now. For many drivers, it’s literally their dream come true.

There are some downsides, of course. The starting price is $82,490, which is a steep price to pay. There’s also the fact that when MotorTrend tested the gas mileage, it got a mixed rating of 19 mpg. For anyone who is trying to save money at the pumps, this is not the SUV for you.

It’s hard to deny the fact that it’s just a really fun vehicle to drive, however, so if you can look past the price and gas mileage, you’ll love your new Durango SRT Hellcat.
