According to Motor Authority, the 2021 Ford F-150 Police Responder is blazing through tests to serve as the fastest police vehicle available. It’s being tested by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD).

During testing, the Ford F-150 accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and reached a quarter-mile in 14.44 seconds at 98.19 mph. A Dodge Charger with the 5.7-liter V8 engine went from 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds with a quarter-mile time of 14.85 seconds at 99.9 mph.

Usually, Michigan State Police Tests are used as the benchmark for police cars, but according to a spokesperson, Lori Dougoviot, the latest report hasn’t been released to the public. Ford claims preliminary results show the F-150 as the fastest option.

Ford mentions that the results show a 0-60 time of 5.4 seconds, which is 1.2 seconds faster than the 2020 F-150. It’s also about 0.4 seconds quicker than every other vehicle tested.

The F-150 recorded a 0-100 mph time of 13.7 seconds too, which is 3.7 seconds faster than the outgoing model and 0.8 seconds faster than the best competitor. Michigan State Police testing confirmed that the 2021 F-150 has a top speed of 120 mph. This is 15 mph faster than before.

How does the F-150 achieve these speeds?

The 2021 Ford F-150 Police Responder is powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine with 400 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the standard four-wheel drive includes a torque-on-demand transfer case without low range.

This truck has a standard towing capacity of 7,000 lbs, but it can be upgraded to 11.200 lbs. It can also carry a payload of up to 2,030 lbs. This is plenty of power for hauling the bad guys to jail.

With the 3.5-liter engine, Ford provided a better performance during the 32-lap handling tests conducted by the LASD and Michigan State Police. The 2021 model shaved 5.8 seconds off the 2020 model’s average lap time in the Michigan test and 3.6 seconds in the LASD test. The LASD test is conducted with 400 lb of payload to simulate cargo.

The 2021 Ford F-150 Police Responder is a four-door SuperCrew cab model with the FX4 off-road package. It’s being built in the Ford Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo, Missouri. Deliveries to government fleets will begin this fall.

With the FX4 package, you get an electronic-locking rear differential that completely locks the rear axle. You also get hill descent control, off-road tuned shock absorbers, and skid plates. The 360-degree camera with a split-view display helps you navigate through tight areas.

You better drive on your best behavior because it will be hard to get away from the new F-150 Police Responder. We really hope to see this beast in action once it begins to be delivered in the fall.
