Their names might sound like dinosaurs, but they’re anything but prehistoric. The 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX are battling for this year’s super-truck title. The F-150 has dominated the truck segment for decades, and the Ram 1500 poses Ford’s first real competition.

Both trucks are big enough to tackle virtually any challenge thrown their way. And the good news is they’ll both fit in your garage.

Size matters with the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX

The 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor is available only in a SuperCrew configuration, and the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX comes in only a four-door crew cab, MotorTrend reports. So it’s a relatively easy apples-to-apples comparison.

Both models sit on a 145-inch wheelbase. The Ford has a 5.5-foot bed, while the Ram has a slightly larger 5.6-foot bed. They both measure 233 inches long. The Raptor is an enormous 86.6 inches wide, but the TRX is even wider at 88 inches. 

These measurements are with the standard mirrors folded in, typically necessary to fit these hulking trucks comfortably inside a one-car garage. The average size of a residential garage is 12 feet wide by 20 feet deep. One of these full-size trucks would have enough room, but there might not be much leftover space for household items.

The F-150 Raptor stands 78.5 inches tall. The Ram 1500 TRX is slightly taller at 80.9 inches, Car and Driver reports. The average height of a garage is eight feet (96 inches), so there should also be plenty of clearance to accommodate these trucks.

The ongoing Ford vs. Ram debate

The well-priced and high-quality Ram 1500 TRX has gained popularity over the Ford F-150 Raptor in recent years, offering drivers an option beyond the Blue Oval mainstay.

As the truck wars rage on, it has become clear the two are in fierce competition to reign supreme. Ram even went as far as to include an Easter egg on the 1500 TRX that depicts a Tyrannosaurus rex taking a bite out of a raptor. It’s hidden underneath the truck’s airbox cover, Muscle Cars & Trucks reported.

Recently, the two giants got into a Twitter battle when Ford Trucks tweeted, “The all-new third-generation F-150 Raptor is coming…” 

More than 2,500 people liked Ram Trucks‘ three-word response: “POP THE HOOD.”

Ram has reason to boast. The TRX packs a 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 engine harnessing an astounding 702 hp. The Ford F-150 Raptor runs on a 450-hp V6 EcoBoost. Ram isn’t afraid to remind Ford which truck offers more power.

Make sure it fits

According to The Car Connection, “The Ram TRX and Ford Raptor both look mean and tower over other large trucks. The wider, angrier versions of their lesser, more work-oriented selves.”

You won’t have a problem maintaining either of these behemoths when garage-kept. However, take the time to measure your space before committing to purchasing one. Otherwise, you might be in for a big disappointment if the truck won’t fit in your garage.

But probably your biggest issue will be deciding which truck better suits your needs. Regardless of which one you choose, once the garage door opens, all bets are off. When these trucks hit the highway, the battle of Ford versus Ram rages on.
