There are many debates from car enthusiasts around the new Ford Mustang Mach-E. From hardcore muscle car fans cringing at the thought of an electric Mustang to those anxiously awaiting the release of the greener way to travel with the same sporty feel. How the Ford Mustang Mach-E stacks up to other EVs

With Tesla being the first name you think of when talking about EVs, people always compare releases from other manufacturers to Tesla’s lineup. While the Ford Mustang Mach-E has some comparable specs to other EVs, it falls short of the “E” part. The Mach-E does not have the “EVness” to successfully compete in the market.

The Premium SUV’s standard EPA-estimated range of 211 miles with the all-wheel-drive option and 230 miles with the rear-wheel-drive option is much lower than other EVs in its class. Even the Mach-E Premium Extended Range only has an EPA-estimated range of 270 miles with the eAWD option and 300 miles with the RWD option, which takes it closer to the Tesla Model Y range.

Testing the extended-range all-wheel-drive Mach-E, Car and Driver broke down the highs and lows of the EV crossover SUV, reporting it as being “quick and better to drive than most ordinary crossovers.” The EV offers a quiet and super-smooth ride but will disappoint those expecting the same engaged driving experience traditional Mustangs provide. The instant torque and super quiet and stylish interior are huge advantages of the Mach-E. While it is a fun car to drive, many will miss the hum of the V8.

While the Car and Driver test proved that the Ford Mustang Mach-E is something to take seriously, their final verdict was, “If they hadn’t told us to expect a Mustang, we’d have far less to complain about.” Therefore, if you want a fun EV that is appropriately priced and not expecting the notable ‘Stang characteristics, the new Mach-E would be a good fit. 

The specs and expected release date

Ford’s new electric crossover offers an attractive look even though it strays from the traditional ‘Stang look. The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is named after Ford’s iconic pony car and acknowledges its high-performance car, Mach 1. Building out the Mustang name as the first electric car from the company was a move to add desirability and excitement around the new EV. It has worked as people anxiously await the day to test-drive the EV at their local Ford dealership. While you can order the Select and Premium models, the luxury GT will not be expected until late summer 2021. 

As the top model pick by many, the Premium Mach-E Extended Range has an impressive 0-60 mph time at 4.8 seconds (eAWD) and 6.1 seconds (RWD). It offers 346 hp with 428 lb-ft of torque to 290 hp with 317 lb-ft of torque for an instant off-the-line response.

Prices starting under $45,000 makes the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E a more affordable EV. One of the most impressive things about the electric crossover is the amount of storage space, with 30 cubic feet in the back and an additional five cubic feet in the frunk. Having that much storage space in a sporty car is almost unheard of and is one of the reasons why the Mach-E is paving the way for a new era of automobiles.
