The Genesis G90 has only been around since 2017, but so far the car hasn’t captured the attention of prospective car buyers and car enthusiasts like many would have thought. The 2021 G90 comes stacked with tons of standard features that other cars only offer in their highest trims, and it looks and feels more luxurious than other cars in its class. So why doesn’t it have the same sales figures as other large luxury vehicles?

An overview of the 2021 Genesis G90

The 2021 Genesis G90 is considered a large luxury car by most people’s standards, which is a competitive class to be in. Other comparable cars include the Audi A7, Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, and the Lexus LS 500. Despite the stiff competition, the Genesis G90 provides enough features to still stand out in the pack. 

Because the G90 is considered a luxury vehicle, it comes with a luxury price tag of $72,950 to start. This is one of the highest prices for its class, but this “base” trim is still fully loaded. This is a much different model than other cars, luxury or standard, that have a base model but offer various trims with more advanced features for thousands of extra dollars. This isn’t the case with the 2021 G90, where the only optional upgrade you can purchase is all-wheel drive for an extra $2,500. 

For some families this is a large investment in a vehicle, but many families find that the Genesis G90 is worth every penny. 

Luxury for the whole family

Many people don’t think of luxury as being synonymous with family-friendly, but the 2021 Genesis G90 manages to provide an excellent balance between the two. This vehicle seats five, and the reviewers at U.S. News were particularly impressed by just how comfortable each seat is.

Not only does the driver’s seat have 22-way power adjustments to help with posture, but the back seat also provides enough room for tall individuals to be exceptionally comfortable. 

Good Housekeeping also named this car the best luxury sedan on their list of The Best New Family Cars of 2021, mostly thanks to its generous warranty, plush seating, and easy-to-use infotainment center. As far as infotainment goes, you won’t be left wanting in the G90.

This vehicle comes standard with the basics like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a surround-sound stereo, wireless device charging, tri-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, remote start, interior ambient lighting, and so much more. 

The G90 is considered family-friendly partially because it has easily accessible child car seat latches, but also because its standard safety features list is a mile long. It has basic safety features like a rear camera and blind-spot monitoring, but it also comes standard with automatic high-beam headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, lane keep assist, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and nearly anything else you can think of. 

This car was also given the highest honor possible from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, the Top Safety Pick+ designation, because of its impressive crash test results and standard safety features. 

Despite its benefits, the Genesis G90 hasn’t sold well

With a features list as long as the Genesis G90, one would expect it to sell like hotcakes, right? Unfortunately, the G90 has had very disappointing sales figures since it was first introduced in 2016. According to GoodCarBadCar, the G90 has never exceeded 4,500 sales in a year, and its sales figures usually hover around 2,200. Those low sales figures are pretty heartbreaking, as this car has so much to offer but hasn’t received the recognition or esteem it deserves yet. 

Interestingly, MotorAuthority recently released some spy shots that make it appear the 2022 Genesis G90 will be fully redesigned, which may help get more people on the Genesis G90 bandwagon.
