Each year that a car manufacturer continues to produce one of their cars, they are constantly working to make it better and more modern, and the 2020 GMC Yukon lived up to many owner expectations. For the next model year, we’ve raised our expectations, but how do you improve upon an already great SUV? Better gas mileage and improved towing capabilities. But for the 2021 GMC Yukon, you can forget about that.

Gas mileage and towing

The GMC Yukon comes with the choice of several different engines depending on which trim level you choose. The newest year offers an option we didn’t have before, introducing a 6.2L V8 that provides the truck with 420hp, making it more powerful than before but not doing anything to improve the car’s gas mileage. This new engine pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission that offers up to 460 lb-ft of torque for an improved driving experience.

Not all of the statistics are out on the new Yukon yet, so it’s hard to know exactly what we will be expecting from the SUV besides the modern cosmetic updates. It will have all of the same engines of previous years with the addition of one new engine, so it’s easy to assume that with little more than tech and cosmetics being updated there won’t be much if any, improvement to the gas mileage. From what GMC has released, it is clear that the new motor and transmission will actually lower the gas mileage.

The towing capacity on the 2021 model years varies in changes depending on the trim and choice and rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. In some trims, we see a slight improvement from the 2020 towing capacities, and in some, we see absolutely no changes. For the largest engine option, you see a pretty significant decrease in towing capacity.

Updates the Yukon did get

The new 2021 Yukon does give us some impressive features. As well as the expected updating to the front end to make the SUV even more modern and aggressive. The interior has just as much luxury and style, with custom wood paneling on the dash and high-quality leather.

While we may not get better gas mileage and towing capabilities, we do get some upgraded technology and safety features. The newest Yukon will offer a 15-inch heads-up display the projects onto the dashboard. This GMC also offers a ridiculous number of camera views to ensure you know whats going on around your car at all times. From nine different camera angles, you can see a birds-eye view of the car from above or a wide-angle rearview camera to minimize any blind spots.

Even without the much-anticipated improvements, many owners were hoping for, the GMC Yukon has done some major cosmetic upgrades that will make it worth waiting for. As always, the Yukon has impeccable styling and an interior worth its price, and the 2021 model years will be no exception.
