When it comes to sedans, the Honda Accord is one of the most famous and beloved options on the market, and for good reason. After all, the Accord has a long history of being an eco-friendly, reliable, affordable, and ultimately, practical car for the average American family. That’s why it’s unsurprising that the 2021 Honda Accord recently won a family car award thanks to its spacious trunk.

There are a lot of car review sites, and they all serve a lot of shoppers and drivers. However, many folks don’t care about extremely fast hypercars that the average person can’t ever afford. That’s where Good Housekeeping comes in, and it’s made a list of the 18 best new family cars of the year. Like any other car review site, Good Housekeeping tested a lot of vehicles and compared their specs against one another. 

More importantly, however, Good Housekeeping made sure to use those cars in ways that a regular person would. For example, Good Housekeeping tested how easy or hard it was to remove and install car seats. The testers also looked at how usable the infotainment system was and how spacious and practical the cargo room was. It’s no surprise that renowned cars like the Kia Telluride and, of course, the Honda Accord won awards.

Why the 2021 Honda Accord is the best midsize sedan for families

Technically, to be fair to all the contenders, the Honda Accord was tied for first place. The Hyundai Sonata also won the same award. However, it’s abundantly clear why Good Housekeeping ultimately gave this honor to the Accord. Off the bat, the Accord excels in the areas that people expect it to. Not only does it have an excellent safety rating, but it also has a lot of safety features, such as automated emergency braking and a rear-seat reminder system.

On top of that, Good Housekeeping was impressed by the Accord’s roominess. Good Housekeeping wrote, “The trunk feels indulgent, with nearly 17 cubic feet of space.” Not only does the Accord have a lot of trunk space, but it also has a lot of passenger space too. In fact, despite being a midsize sedan, the Accord has more headroom and legroom than many full-size sedans.

As such, the Accord can comfortably carry passengers and their cargo around. Not only that, but the Accord also has a sizeable infotainment system. It gets an 8.0-inch touch screen as standard, and of course, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. 

What else is good about the 2021 Honda Accord?

Not only is the Honda Accord spacious, safe, and practical, but it also drives quite well. Good Housekeeping wrote that it has “balanced and confident handling” that pairs well with its powertrain options. Its standard engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged I4 that produces 192 horsepower. Drivers who want a more powerful engine could get the 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 engine with 252 horsepower instead.

On top of that, Honda also offers a hybrid option, and Good Housekeeping recommended this one, too. As far as fuel economy goes, the standard engine gets about 30 mpg combined, while the sportier 2.0-lite engine gets about 26 mpg combined. The Accord Hybrid model, on the other hand, gets about 48 mpg combined. 

Additionally, like other Hondas, the 2021 Accord is as reliable as ever. Owners may even end up saving money on maintenance fees from owning the Accord. Furthermore, the Accord is pretty cheap as is. It starts at about $25,000. However, options and trims can push that price tag up significantly.
