If you can’t get a 2021 Ford Bronco Sport right now, consider the 2021 Honda CR-V. According to Car and Driver, the Honda CR-V is the better option. They compiled a list of the best compact SUVs ranked from worst to best.
The Hyundai Nexo came in 17th place, which is last, and the 2021 Mazda CX-5 came in first. But today, we’re focusing on the CR-V and Bronco Sport. The Ford Bronco Sport landed in 5th place, and the Honda CR-V came in third.
While the Bronco Sport does include excellent off-roading features and party tricks such as a built-in bottle opener in the liftgate, it fell short due to a lack of comfort and convenience features.
The Honda CR-V was noted for not being the sportiest or most attractive SUV, but it provides plenty of value. It’s spacious, efficient, and comes with plenty of standard features such as active cruise control.
Is the Honda CR-V or Ford Bronco Sport better for driving?
The 2021 Honda CR-V comes with a standard 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of torque. The Honda CR-V Hybrid combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors to pump out 212 hp. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 8.2 seconds.
With the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport, you get a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 181 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. The Bronco Sport can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.2 seconds.
When properly equipped, the CR-V can tow up to 1,500 lbs. The Bronco Sport can tow up to 2,200 lbs. So both SUVs aren’t great for hauling campers but can pull smaller trailers. Also, the Bronco Sport is the better off-roader.
But the CR-V could be the better daily driver with responsive handling, precise steering, and controlled body motions. The Bronco Sport suffers from a jerky transmission and vague steering. Plus, the CR-V has a smoother ride and a quieter interior.
Does the Bronco Sport or CR-V have better features?
The 2021 Honda CR-V provides 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats with up to 75.8 cubes total. The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport offers 29 cubic feet of cargo space in the rear with up to 65.2 cubes total.
In terms of tech, the CR-V could use an upgrade. Base models come with a 5.0-inch color radio, but all other models get a 7.0-inch infotainment system. The Bronco Sport comes with an 8.0-inch infotainment system. Both SUVs come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Both SUVs come with standard lane-keeping assist and lane-departure warning. But the CR-V comes with forward collision warning, automated emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control, while the Bronco Sport comes with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
You can get started in a 2021 Honda CR-V for about $25,350, and the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport begins at about $27,215. The Bronco Sport is a little faster and better equipped for off-roading, but the Honda CR-V is more comfortable with more space.
