Experts at U.S. News compared the four best two-row SUVs of 2021, but competition at the top isn’t too fierce in terms of value and quality. This is obvious with U.S. News experts naming the Honda Passport as the “Best 2-Row SUV for the Money in 2021 for its top-notch overall quality and performance and its outstanding value.”

The 2021 Honda Passport “registers a lower average purchase price” than rivals in the segment, and of all four finalists in the category, the Honda Passport comes with the highest Overall Score from experts of 8.0/10.

In addition to a low purchase price and great scores from the critics, the Honda Passport also adds value to owners with high-reliability scores, as well as being “among the cheapest midsize two-row models to keep for five years.” In terms of delivering the best value, the Honda Passport is the clear winner among two-row SUVs.

Why contenders of the Passport still fall behind

The three other SUVs in the running for “Best 2-Row SUV for the Money in 2021” all come with impressive scores from experts. The Jeep Grand Cherokee comes in fourth place on U.S. News’ list, featuring plenty of personality and options, but a costly sticker price.

Coming in third place is the Chevrolet Blazer, which costs buyers less coming off the lot and offers decent fuel economy, but still lacks in the standard features and overall quality that the Passport masters.

The closest match-up in overall value to the Honda Passport is the 2021 Nissan Murano. According to U.S. News experts, the Murano comes with a good purchase price and great safety scores.

But when compared to the Honda Passport, the Murano’s cargo space and interior quality/features are lacking. While every contender still boasts their own qualities, it simply appears the Honda Passport does the job of all of them, for less money.

Is the 2021 Honda Passport a good SUV?

The 2021 Honda Passport comes with a starting price of around $32,000. This price is higher than some within the segment, but unlike those, the Passport offers more features and higher quality for that price.

According to U.S. News experts, the Passport isn’t just the best two-row SUV for the money. Its amazing quality also makes it the winner of its “2021 Best 2-Row SUV for Families” competition, for its “stellar combination of cargo and passenger space, safety and reliability ratings, positive reviews from automotive journalists, and available family-friendly features.”

While there are four Passport trims to choose from, every Honda Passport comes standard with a 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine that makes 280 hp, paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Experts say that driving the Passport “strikes a good balance between on-road comfort and agile cornering.” Depending on the Passport’s drivetrain, it can earn up to an EPA-estimated 20 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway. 

Standard features on the base Honda Passport include an 8.0-inch touchscreen display, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay compatibility, tri-zone automatic climate control, remote start, and an under-floor storage bin.

It also comes with impressive cargo space for the class, offering up to 100.8 cubic-feet, depending on how the seats are positioned. The Honda Passport comes with more standard advanced safety features than most in the segment, offering a rearview camera, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist, road departure mitigation, and stop-and-go adaptive cruise control.
