The Fisker Ocean SUV just made its grand debut at the 2021 LA Auto Show in front of a packed (and masked) crowd. For months EV enthusiasts have speculated what the Ocean’s final production version will offer. Today, we officially know much more.

Fisker Ocean SUV debuts at 2021 LA Auto Show

The Fisker Ocean SUV was the first major vehicle reveal of the 2021 LA Auto Show, and it set the tone for things to come. The Fisker Inc. exhibit was packed with journalists who were all eager to finally know what the Ocean SUV would have to offer in a growingly competitive EV market.

Tesla has dominated the electric SUV market with the Model X and Model Y despite several price increases over the last year. Other electric SUVs such as Ford’s Mustang Mach-E, Jaguar’s I-PACE, and Kia’s Niro EV have performed respectably.

The Fisker Ocean has been teased for quite some time, and curiosity peaked when Fisker revealed the starting MSRP for the Ocean SUV would start under $40,000. Could the small automaker produce something that can legitimately compete with Tesla? When judging purely from the spec sheet, it appears so.

How much is the Fisker Ocean? It depends on what trim you want

One of the first major Fisker Ocean SUV reveals is the fact that it will come in three different trim levels. The base trim is called the “Sport,” then there will be a mid-tier “Ultra,” and finally the top-level “Extreme” trim.

The Fisker Ocean Sport will start at $37,499 and has an estimated range of 250 miles. Its single electric motor makes 250 horsepower and has an FWD configuration. The Fisker Ocean Sport has a 0 to 60 mph time of 6.9 seconds.

The Ultra trim gets a price bump to $49,999 and has a range of 340 miles. According to Fisker, that is the longest range for an EV (technically) under $50,000. The Ultra has dual motors with a combined 540 horsepower and features an AWD drivetrain. The dual motors push the EV from a stop to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds.

Finally, the Extreme trim provides all the juicy numbers that enthusiasts are looking for. However, they will have to pay for it as the Extreme starts at $68,999. The Extreme has a range of 350 miles with capacity for more thanks to the standard solar roof, which can provide an additional 1,500 to 2,000 miles of range per year.

Targeted toward high-end customers, Extreme also features a similar dual-motor AWD drivetrain with 550 horsepower and a 3.6 second 0 to 60 mph time.

But wait, there’s more

If announcing the price and trims of the Fisker Ocean SUV wasn’t enough, the automaker revealed some surprise bits of information about some of the creature comforts, options, and purchase options.

One of the most interesting bits regards the massive interior touch screen. Apparently, the screen can rotate between vertical and horizontal positions with the push of a button. The only use case for that function we can think of is watching media, but hey, why not?

The Ocean also has something called “California mode.” Essentially, with the push of a button, all windows and the roof will open at once, letting in the sun and fresh air.

To make the Fisker Ocean easy to obtain, the automaker announced a flex lease program that allows customers to return a vehicle at any point during the lease instead of a predetermined period set by a contract.

The Ocean is set to release in November 2022. However, Henrik Fisker mentioned toward the end of the debut that the company might actually deliver a few customer vehicles before the official release date. We’ll see if that ends up being accurate or not.
