When it comes to luxurious crossovers, you can’t get much better than the 2021 Lexus RX 450h. Its simplistic elegance, upscale features, and fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain make it a great value for the money. But what’s even better is that its all-wheel-drivetrain makes it a capable cruiser in the snow.

Over the snow and through the streets, the Lexus RX 450h will go

We get some freak snow downpours every once in a while here in Colorado, so it’s important to have a car or SUV that can adequately get through it all at a moment’s notice. Most people in the Denver metropolitan area drive trucks or larger SUVs with the notion that a big, bad rig can plow through anything.

However, during my time living here, I found that almost any car can get you where you need to go when the white stuff pours from the sky. So when Lexus sent me a 2021 RX 450h to test out for a week, I had no worries when it started to snow. Denver actually received a couple of inches of snow overnight, so I figured it was the perfect time to put this five-seat luxury SUV to the test.

My tester is an F Sport variant, which means that it’s outfitted with F Sport styling cues like a mesh front grille and rear valence. However, it also has F Sport wheels, which are 20-inch rollers in dark gray wrapped in all-season tires.

Considering its sporty nature, I would think that the Lexus RX 450h F Sport wouldn’t fare too well in the snow, but I was wrong.

The Lexus RX 450h is sure-footed in the snow

Along with the few inches of snow that hit the ground, there was also a reasonable amount of slush to keep things slippery. But that wasn’t an issue for the trusty Lexus RX 450h as it handily drove through everything I put it through with ease.

I even deliberately drove it over snow piles that accumulated on parts of the road attempting to make the car slip, but no dice. The RX 450h took everything like a champion to the point that if it could taunt me and say, “Is that all you got?” It would.

The Lexus RX 450h’s technology makes snow driving easier

While its all-season tires gripped the road like an eagle’s talons catches its prey, I have to give some credit to the car’s all-wheel-drive system. I hammered the throttle at every stop and even did standing starts on inclines, but the drive system never failed me once, and it’s super quiet in its operation as well.

Additionally, my tester is fitted with “Intuitive Parking Assist with a panoramic view,” which is Lexus speak for a “360-degree camera and parking sensors.” This feature did come in handy when parking in a tight space covered with snow as I was able to see all sides of the car, with a primary focus on the front to see where I’m going. Overall, the 2021 Lexus RX 450h is great in the snow, no matter what you put it through.
