Maserati’s latest effort to provide something new and different comes in the form of the new Trofeo models of its current offerings, including the Maserati Ghibli Trofeo. Let’s take a closer look at the 2021 Maserati Ghibli Trofeo, and how it compares to other upgraded models from BMW and Mercedes-Benz. 

An overview of the 2021 Maserati Ghibli Trofeo

The 2021 Maserati Ghibli Trofeo is a beautiful car that is sure to turn heads as it passes by. Its exterior features rounded and swooping details that make it look like the luxury car its price tag says it is. The Maserati Ghibli Trofeo is available in several colors, though it looks most refined and classy in black. The front of this car is utterly gorgeous, featuring the prominent trident logo on its front grille and narrow, angled headlights that provide a sporty look. 

The Maserati Ghibli Trofeo also displays a few unique details, like the Trofeo insignia near the driver’s side door and carbon-fiber features, that make it that much more special to look at. This car is just as dazzling on the inside too. It features beautifully designed and comfortable seats, a 10.1-inch infotainment system, and classic gauges behind the steering wheel. It also comes with Android Auto and Apple Carplay. 

Under the Maserati Ghibli Trofeo’s hood

To earn the title of Trofeo, the Maserati Ghibli needed more engine power. That’s why the Maserati Ghibli Trofeo comes with a twin-turbocharged, 3.8-liter engine from Ferrari that’s capable of producing 580 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque. Compared to cheaper sports cars, this is one impressive engine. Compared to its direct competition among luxury brands, this engine seems a bit lackluster. 

At the same time, this vehicle can get from 0 to 60 MPH in four seconds flat, which is also much quicker than your run-of-the-mill sedan, but slower than other high-end vehicles of this kind. The fact that the Maserati Ghibli Trofeo relies on rear-wheel drive instead of four-wheel drive likely plays a role in this phenomenon. Despite all of this, Maserati states that this model can get up to 203 MPH, an eyebrow-raising number to say the least. 

According to the Maserati website, the cheapest version of the Maserati Ghibli costs $74,390. If you want to spring for the Trofeo edition of this vehicle, it’ll cost you an extra $35,00 with a starting price of $109,890. 

How the Maserati Ghibli Trofeo compares to the competition

Maserati attached the Trofeo option to the Maserati Ghibli and Maserati Quattroporte for the first time in 2021. This appears to be an effort to provide an even higher-end option to the already high-end Maserati brand on select vehicles, much in the way BMW has the M option and Mercedes-Benz has AMG. All three of these additions give more power and features than their non-souped-up versions, and all three come with a significantly higher price tag. 

Car and Driver points out that recent Maserati models have endured high depreciation rates in their value, potentially giving them a significant blow to sales. It seems as though releasing the Trofeo options for some Maserati vehicles is a calculated risk that Maserati hopes will yield more sales from even higher-end, affluent clients than it already does. Time will tell if they are able to pull it off, but the Maserati Ghibli Trofeo does have one major thing going for it: its unique look and feel. 

The Maserati Ghibli Trofeo doesn’t look like cookie-cutter luxury vehicle, and it definitely doesn’t feel or sound like one. We often gravitate toward cars that share some of the same attributes strive for in ourselves, whether that’s reliability, athleticism, or uniqueness. Drivers who want to show the world that they aren’t like everyone else may find this vehicle particularly alluring.
