2021 Ram 1500 Rebel TRX to be Revealed In June
The awesome Ram 1500 Rebel TRX reveal was delayed due to the Coronavirus. It had been scheduled for its debut at the canceled Detroit Auto Show. So, many thought the reveal would instead come at the New York International Auto Show in August. Now, it seems that Ram’s parent company, FCA, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will not wait that long to bring the Ford Raptor fighter to light.
When the Detriot and Geneva shows were canceled earlier this year, there were several manufacturers slated to reveal new products. Ram was one of them. They were going to debut the Ram 1500 Rebel TRX. It’s a vehicle that has been teased in concept form since 2016. So, people have been chomping at the bit for years now, much like those that are waiting for the Ford Bronco to finally arrive.
Revealed in a streaming event
Today comes word via Motor1 and Moparinsiders, that the Ram Rebel TRX may be introduced in a streamed event from the FCA Chelsea Proving Grounds. This event is expected to be scheduled at the end of June for a private audience consisting of the media. Past history shows that it is not unusual for FCA to debut products at such meetings in the past.
The sources go on to say that the start of production for the truck is in question, though. It was originally to start in September. However, the Coronavirus fiasco has caused the schedule to be pushed back. Now it is being reported to be more like mid-October.
The pricing
Pricing of the Ram 1500 Rebel TRX is expected to be on-par with the Ford Raptor competition, though that can not be confirmed. That means a price point should put the truck around $70,000. Certainly, the more optioned the vehicle is, the higher that price point can go.
The engine
The Hellcat 700+ horsepower engine is expected to under the hood of the vehicle, as opposed to the detuned Hellcat engine that was presented with the concept truck in 2016. According to The Fast Lane Truck, leaked images of the instrument cluster in the dash were pretty revealing as well. From their examination, it shows that the redline on the tachometer is marked at around 5,750 rpm. That is similar to the Hellcat engine already available in the FCA storehouse.
The transmission
Discussions about the transmission for the TRX have not been settled. There’s just as much suspicion about an eight-speed automatic as there is for the ten-speed automatic transmission. So, that is one detail that still needs to come to light.
Further examination of the leaked images of the instrument panel and dash reveal that an adjustable suspension could very well be a part of the TRX mix. There also seems to be multiple drive modes that include launch control. Launch control in a truck seems superfluous, but this is likely a Hellcat-powered vehicle. So, it actually seems reasonable to have that launch control and the availability of other drive modes, and suspension adjustments.
The body
The concept vehicle from 2016 was shown in the classic body style, which is still available today. But, Ram has been selling a new body style as well. The body of the 2021 Ram 1500 Rebel TRX is expected to be the new body style.
The Ram 1500 Rebel TRX’s inability to be revealed at the Detroit Auto Show left FCA with a need. That need was to get the information out about their formidable truck before people start to forget it exists. Marketing is key in keeping a product top-of-mind. So, going too long without information about the TRX coming out was not something FCA was going to let happen. Thankfully, it seems that they are making that reveal happen June. The fans will no doubt rejoice.
