The 2021 Ram TRX is potentially coming close to overshadowing the Ford Raptor for the muscle truck poster child. The wild horsepower is a major part of the picture, but there are also 10 million 2021 Ram TRX options and accessories that can really set it apart from the crowd. But will all those options and accessories add weight and ultimately slow the Ram TRX down?

How fast is 2021 Ram TRX?

From the cheapest TRX to the most expensive, most optioned out flex-mobile, they all have the same powertrain. The 2021 Ram TRX is fitted with the Hellcat 6.2-liter supercharged V8 making an enormous 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. They are all set up with an eight-speed automatic transmission running a four-wheel-drive system.

To finish them off, the transfer case has been beefed up to handle all that Hemi-power, and there’s a Dana 60 solid rear axle with an electronic-locking rear differential.

All of those numbers add up to a half-ton pickup truck that can hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. For reference, that is nearly actual sports car territory. This thing is actually fast.

What is the difference between the fully optioned Ram TRX and the base model?

Motor1 reports that the folks at Fast Lane Truck had the same question and two to the drag strip to find out. Apart from nearly $30k, there are many differences between the almost stock Ram TRX in white and the fully-loaded red Ram TRX.

Motor1 notes that the only factory upgrade that the white Ram has is the remote start option. The interior is noted as being a very plain mixture of cloth and vinyl. There aren’t even seat warmers in this TRX. So when we say “plain,” we mean plain.

However, the owner did add some extra vinyl decals, special badging, and a red engine emblem. This plain verison of the 2021 Ram TRX costs $72,385 and weighs 72-lbs lighter than the full-optioned red TRX.

For starters, if you say yes to everything, the 2021 Ram TRX can peak just north of $100k, making it the most expensive production half-ton truck on the market. The red one gets things like heated seats, sunroof, remote start, leather, and on and on. Like we said earlier, the gross weight difference between the varyingly optioned trucks is 72lbs toward the optioned TRX.

Which TRX is faster?

The fellas line up the two 2021 TRX pickups and give them the beans. In the first race, it appears that the heavier, optioned Ram picked up the W.

In the following races, the white one starts to win some. The results are interesting, if not overly shocking. Even though both trucks have the same powerplant and transmission, the difference of just a few pounds and the driver makes all the difference.

The white truck has pulled away and beaten the red truck by a nose in the drag race.

It is hard to tell with the drivers, but the white one seems to just have the edge on the fully optioned TRX. This is cool because you can basically choose where your want your money to go without sacrificing much.

Sure, the optioned one is more luxurious than the plain one, but is it $30k nicer? Considering the white one can technically outrun the red Ram TRX, that $30k could probably be better spent elsewhere.
