Whether you enjoy sunlight streaming in while you drive or star-gazing at night, a panoramic sunroof can be an attractive amenity. But not all vehicles offer it. Does the 2021 Subaru Outback include one among its features? Let’s take a look.

The 2021 Subaru Outback

The wagonlike 2021 Subaru Outback provides “a smooth ride, adept off-road capabilities, and a cabin filled with high-end materials,” U.S. News reports. The base engine isn’t that powerful. But this midsize crossover SUV comes with all-wheel drive, a rarity in its class (nearly every Subaru model boasts AWD). Its two engine options pair with a continuously variable transmission. The 2021 Outback can tow up to 2,700 pounds with the standard engine and 3,500 pounds with the more powerful option.

In the cabin, the seats are spacious, and there’s lots of cargo room. The Outback offers 32.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 75.7 cubic feet with those seats folded down. Underfloor storage provides additional storage space.

The Outback also comes with plenty of advanced safety features. And the 2021 model boasts two important features that are now standard: a rear-seat reminder and steering-responsive LED headlights.

Does the 2021 Subaru Outback have a panoramic sunroof?

The bad news: The 2021 Subaru Outback doesn’t offer a panoramic sunroof. However, you can get a moonroof. Though it isn’t available on the base trim, it’s optional on three of the trims and standard on the other three. The options package containing the moonroof costs $2,045 to $2,995, depending on the trim.

Features in the 2021 Outback

The 2021 Subaru Outback comes in seven trim levels: the base model, Premium, Limited, Touring, Onyx Edition XT, Limited XT, and Touring XT. The first four have a four-cylinder engine generating 182 hp. The three XT trims pack a turbocharged four-cylinder producing 260 hp.

The base Subaru Outback starts at $26,795. This is a lower MSRP than many other wagons, and even the Outback’s top trim costs less than other wagons’ base trims. However, the Outback does cost more than most other compact SUVs.

Base model

The Outback comes with two 7.0-inch touchscreens. Also standard are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility plus a four-speaker stereo, satellite radio, two USB ports, and Bluetooth. Its infotainment system isn’t that easy to use, U.S. News reports. Available optional features for the base trim include a Rockford Fosgate sound system and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

The list of standard advanced safety features includes the rear-seat reminder, seat belt warning for rear-seat passengers, steering-responsive automatic LED high-beam headlights, rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist.

Premium trim

The Subaru Outback Premium trim starts at $29,045 and adds several comfort features. It has a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, two rear USB ports, a six-speaker stereo, and HD Radio. It also upgrades to an 11.6-inch touchscreen. Additional available features include the moonroof, navigation, wireless device charging, proximity keyless entry, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane change assist.

Limited trim

The Limited trim starts at $33,595. It adds leather upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable passenger’s seat, heated rear seats, proximity keyless entry, and a hands-free power liftgate. It also boasts a 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system plus blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane change assist, and reverse automatic emergency braking. Along with the moonroof, navigation, a heated steering wheel, and driver distraction monitoring are available features.

Touring trim

Starting at $37,494, the Outback Touring trim provides Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. It also comes standard with a moonroof, navigation, and driver distraction monitoring.

XT trims

The Outback’s three XT trims are all similar to the Limited trim but boast the more powerful engine. The Onyx Edition XT starts at $35,145. It has “a front-view camera, upgraded X-Mode off-road settings, unique interior and exterior design elements, and water-repellent synthetic leather upholstery,” U.S. News reports. A moonroof is an option with this trim. The Limited XT trim starts at $37,995. The moonroof is standard, as are a heated steering wheel, navigation, and driver distraction monitoring. The top-trim Outback Touring XT, starting at $39,945, boasts nearly all of the available features.

All in all, the 2021 Subaru Outback does have an available moonroof, but you won’t find a panoramic sunroof. If you’re looking for a Subaru with that feature, consider the 2021 Subaru Forester instead.
