While the rest of the world waits patiently and with bated breath for any droplet of information from Acura, the 2022 Acura Integra has been released in China. Well, sort of. Yes, the new Integra is out, but no, it’s not the Acura one we’ve all seen the photos of. In actuality, this is basically a Chinese market Honda Civic wearing an Integra badge.

It’s by no means a knock-off, however, this is the real deal. A true-blue (or red, as that’s Honda’s color) Honda Integra, something we haven’t seen since before 2005.

Is this Integra a Honda or an Acura?

First, an important reminder. Honda and Acura are the same company. Acura is to Honda what Lexus is to Toyota. Even more importantly, it’s also important to remember that not only do both companies share platforms, they also share brand IP. That brand IP includes names like “Integra” and “Type R.”

So, while this isn’t the 2022 Acura Integra we’ll be getting in the coming months in the U.S, it is an important clue for us to follow as we try to learn more about the hotly anticipated compact liftback. Even without Acura’s teaser image (below), we can now be 100% certain the new 2022 Acura Integra will have four doors.

The original Integra was a mundane 4-door too

Now for the new info. First, we’ve got some clues about potential specs. As suspected, the new Integra will be heavily based on the Honda Civic, as the Chinese version so kindly points out. That means engine options could be the same. For starters, teaser images on Chinese sites show a badge that says “Integra 240 Turbo.” That 240 number is likely 240 nm.

NM (Newton Meters), is how the rest of the world measures torque. That number also roughly equates to the 180 lb-ft produced by the new Civic’s 1.5-liter engine. Given that there’s certain points on the body of the Honda Integra that can’t be moved, there’s a good chance this is also our first look at the overall shape of the 2022 Acura Integra.

The 2022 Acura Integra will eventually make its way to America

While we’ll likely have to wait several more months for any news on a super-hot 2022 Acura Integra Type R, we now at least have some insight into what the specifics of the new entry-level Acura will be. It’s a shame the Chinese market got to see an Integra first, but at least we know there’s going to be a Honda variant rolling around again. And that is absolutely cool enough on its own.
