Is the 2022 Acura RDX Worth Buying? Here are 3 Pros and 3 Cons
The 2022 Acura RDX is a luxury crossover that’s well-equipped to handle the elements in style. Its available all-wheel drivetrain, high-riding stance, and potent engine make it a capable SUV. Additionally, it has plenty of tech-savvy features and a comfortable interior. But is really worth spending close to $50,000 for it? Here are three pros and cons to purchasing a 2022 RDX.
Pro: The 2022 Acura RDX has a smooth powertrain
As mentioned before, the 2022 Acura RDX comes with a potent turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that churns out 272 hp. According to Cars.com, this engine “serves up smooth and quick acceleration throughout the rev range and it’s paired with a responsive and quick-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission.” There are also different drive modes to fit nearly any driving situation.
Con: The touchpad controller is a bit cumbersome to use
There is a large 10.2-inch infotainment display screen that sits in the center of the dashboard inside the Acura RDX. The screen itself is great, but controlling it is a different story. There is a touchpad in the center console that allows the user to toggle through the menus. However, it’s a bit cumbersome to use and can be distracting while driving.
Pro: The RDX A-Spec trim and above has an adaptive suspension
For the 2022 model year, the Acura RDX A-Spec and Advance trim levels get an adaptive suspension. That means the driver can change the firmness of the suspension with the push of a button. It’s great for everyday use as well as for long road trips.
Con: The RDX’s screen layout could be better
While the 10.2-inch infotainment screen is large and easy to see, it can get a little confusing to use. As Cars.com notes, a third of the screen is occupied by a submenu, leaving about three inches of actual screen space for more important functions like the backup camera, navigation map, or Apple Carplay.
Pro: The Acura RDX has a handsome interior
Sit inside the Acura RDX and be prepared to fall in love with its interior. The well-appointed cabin includes luxuries like heated and ventilated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and soft-touch materials everywhere. There’s also plenty of space for adults in the second row in addition to plenty of cargo room.
Con: The push-button shifter takes time to get used to
Honda has been using the push-button shifter in some of its cars for years and the Acura RDX is no exception. Instead of a gear shift lever, the RDX has buttons for the “park,” “reverse,” and “drive” gears. It’s a little weird to use at first, but you get used to it over time.
Is the 2022 Acura RDX a good deal?
Yes, with a starting price of just over $40,000, we think that the 2022 Acura RDX is a great deal. It’s handsome styling inside and out, potent engine, and luxury appointments make it a standout in the crossover crowd. Just don’t mind the funky tech controls.
