What do you get when you go to Chevrolet’s website and check every single box on your 2022 Chevrolet Camaro order sheet? Quite a lot as it turns out. You get a car that cements the change from a muscle car to a sports car. Obviously, that means several things. For starters, that means a manual transmission, and a big, loud, very American supercharged V8. But is the most optioned-out ‘Maro still a bargain? Or is it more supercar than bargain? A fully loaded Chevrolet Camaro is no bargain muscle car
The end result, should you check every box, is a stunning”Wild Cherry” red 2022 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. You’re spending $1,065 on paint alone. But that number pales in comparison to the $7,500 ZL1 Extreme Track Performance Package. Obviously, that pack is just as insane as it sounds. For your nearly eight grand, Chevrolet gives you new 19″ wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, loads of carbon fiber, and the brand’s magnetorheologic dampers with adjustable camber plates to name a few things.
All told, that brings the sticker price of the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 to an astonishing $77,445. That’s one expensive muscle car, to say the least. But the Zl1 isn’t a muscle car. It’s the cheapest supercar you can buy, bar none. That blown 6.2L V8 makes 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque and is accompanied by aerodynamics that are more at home on a Formula 1 car. If you want to check every box on what is surely one of the last American-made V8 icons, this is the one to do it with.
What is the cheapest Camaro?
But, despite $75,000 being a pretty solid supercar bargain (that’s used Audi R8 money, after all), the Camaro ZL1 is still prohibitively expensive. It’s also one of the stiffest-riding Camaro models in recent memory. Supposing you want a Camaro on a budget, and one you can drive every day to boot, the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro SS is the car for you. While you still get GM’s fantastic MagRide shocks, it’s significantly cheaper than the ZL1, and still keeps much of that sports car touch that sets the Camaro apart from its rivals.
The cheapest new V8 Camaro gets a naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 and will run you $35,195 before options. If that’s still too rich for your blood, then it’s time to go used to find the cheapest Camaro out there. Used fifth-gen V8 models (the one from Transformers) can easily be found for a much more manageable $25,000. Still too much? A V8 fourth-generation Chevy Camaro can easily be had with some miles from around $10,000 to $20,000.

In short, the entire ‘Maro lineup, from the ultra-bargain fourth-gen, all the way up to the $75,000 2022 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, are bargains. Unfortunately, this go-fast bargain for the ages will be dying. As of 2024, the Chevrolet Camaro dies, set to be replaced by an EV. So, should you want to spend some money on a car as American as crippling healthcare debt, now is most certainly the time.
