The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox Has Enough Cargo Room for a Mountain Bike and More
When driving a crossover for a week, I like to not only test its driving feel and ride comfort but I also test its cargo capabilities whenever possible. As such, when I received the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox, I knew I needed to fold down the rear seats and see what the cargo area could hold. To my surprise, the Equinox was able to swallow a whole bike and more.
How big is the cargo space of the 2022 Chevy Equinox?
The 2022 Chevy Equinox has a standard split-folding rear seat and when it is folded, the Equinox boasts 63.9 cubic feet of cargo volume. That figure might not mean much to you, but put it this way, I was able to stuff a whole Aventon Soltera electric bike back there with the front wheel on. What was even better was that I was able to stick one side of the handlebar into an open spot on the side of the rear seat which kept the bike from moving.
Of course, there are probably more secure to transport a bike in this manner, but considering it was my first time transporting a bike like this, it worked. On the way back from my biking activities, I was also able to fit a few bags of groceries on the floor in front of the seat. That goes to show that I could have fit even more stuff around the bike had I needed to. That’s pretty impressive.
Additionally, loading and unloading the bike was simple as the Equinox’s load height isn’t too high.
How does the Equinox’s space compare to the RAV4 and CR-V?
Surprisingly, the 2022 Equinox’s cargo capacity is smaller than its closest competitors. If you’re shopping for a two-row crossover, then you’re likely checking out the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 in addition to the Equinox. In that case, it’s worth it to note that the Honda CR-V has 75.8 cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded down and the RAV4 has 69.7 cubic feet. That means you can definitely fit a mountain bike in the backs of those two vehicles as well.
However, loading the bike may be different as both the CR-V and RAV4 have different-sized cargo openings than the Equinox. Either way, the cargo-carrying capabilities should work well in all three of these crossovers. But if you need to haul two bikes, then you may want to buy a bike rack or stick them on the roof instead.
The 2022 Equinox has plenty of other storage spaces as well
Aside from the 2022 Equinox’s large cargo hold, there are plenty of other smaller spaces to store stuff as well. There are two little cubby areas that flank the cargo area in which you can carry longer items and there are a few handy places up front to store smaller stuff.
I especially liked the handy center console area that has little dividers as well. If you’re the type to “live out of your car,” then the Equinox has you covered. It doesn’t matter if you need to haul a bunch of smaller items or a large bike, this crossover has what you need.
