2022 Chevy Blazer RS vs. 2022 Ford Edge ST

The 2022 Chevy Blazer RS and 2022 Ford Edge ST are the performance models in their respective lineups. Both midsize crossovers offer several trim levels that vary in price, engines, styling, and technology. These two SUVs are the cream of the crop for performance and power within the Edge and Blazer arsenal. Rivalries exist throughout the entire automotive industry, and the two of these are direct competitors.

Both vehicles offer a 5-star safety rating, another reason to make your family vehicle an SUV. Additionally, the two crossovers offer power without compromising gas mileage. Although it isn’t impressive, the fuel economy is average among similar vehicles. For instance, the Honda Pilot offers 20 city and 27 highway mpg, and the top-rated Kia Telluride gets 20 city and 26 highway mpg.

The Edge ST comes with all-wheel drive

Just like every other model in the Ford Edge lineup, the ST variant comes standard with all-wheel drive. The same cannot be said about the 2022 Chevy Blazer RS, a standard front-wheel-drive model. The Blazer does have optional AWD, but it’ll cost you a bit extra. The price jumps from $42,090 to $44,990 just from changing it over to the AWD model.

Those who don’t mind paying a few thousand extra can still get a Blazer RS AWD. However, the Ford Edge ST shipping with AWD makes it slightly less expensive than the Blazer RS. One of the Blazer’s few advantages over the Edge is the price, which it loses by gaining AWD. It does, however, give the Chevy SUV a slight advantage in fuel economy.

Thanks to FWD, the Blazer RS gets a better fuel economy and starting price than the Ford Edge ST. Keeping FWD means the midsize crossover gets 27 highway mpg, compared to the Edge’s 25. It isn’t too significant of a difference, but better is better. The two rivals maintain the same city rate throughout the lineup at a static 19 mpg.

Chevy’s offering starts at $42,090, making it an affordable SUV with a V6 engine. The 2022 Ford Edge ST’s starting price of $43,760 isn’t horrifically higher, but again, better is better. Most people will end up adding enough packages to each crossover that they’ll be a few thousand dollars more expensive anyway.

The 2022 Ford Edge ST has more horsepower and performance enhancements

The Edge ST uses its twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 to make an impressive 335 horsepower. That’s a significant margin over the Blazer RS’s 308 horsepower. Either way, you’re getting a pretty powerful and fast midsize crossover, but there’s a distinct winner. The Ford Edge ST gets more accessories and enhancements for performance as well.

Every 2022 Ford Edge ST comes with the ST Performance Brake Package, Class II Trailer Tow Package, and Ford Performance front and rear scuff plates. Additionally, ST captain’s chairs with city silver accent stitching are found inside, along with a B and O 12-speaker sound system with a subwoofer. The Chevy Blazer RS does not come with any enhancements over its other models in the lineup other than the engine and some styling cues.

Both the 2022 Chevy Blazer RS and the 2022 Ford Edge ST are excellent high-performance midsize crossover options. They’ve got everything from passenger and cargo space to horsepower and fuel economy. Although the Blazer does edge out its opponent in a few ways, they’re minuscule advantages that won’t affect much overall. For the most part, the Edge ST is the clear winner and the better option for most potential buyers.
