Why is the 2022 Chevy Colorado’s Trail Boss Package No Longer Available?
As of last week, the Trail Boss Package for the 2022 Chevy Colorado is no longer available to order. GM Authority first reported that the package disappeared, but now it’s learned why that happened. The Trail Boss Package is so popular that the automaker can’t keep up with demand. Therefore Chevy has made the package entirely unavailable for ordering for the time being.
How popular is the 2022 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss Package?
Chevy can’t keep up with the production for this package, but no automaker is keeping up with production these days. How many have the automaker sold, and why is it sold out? Chevy prepared itself with enough parts to produce the packages for what it thought would cover a full calendar year. After only a single month, it sold three times as many as it felt it would in a year.
We’re no mathematicians, but that’s a lot more than Chevy thought it would sell. Now the automaker is scrambling to fill the orders it already has and refusing to take more. Specifically, the alloy wheels included in the Trail Boss Package are significantly behind in production. Because of the lack of supplies, some Chevy Colorado dealer orders are being rebuilt without the Trail Boss Package.
What is the Trail Boss Package?
The 2022 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss Package comes with a couple of great features. The most prominent of the bunch are the skid plates, leveling kit, and alloy wheels. The illusive wheels are the leading cause of the problem, so could the solution be to drop them from the package temporarily? They’re one of the biggest draws to buying the package, so that could be a tricky solution.
- Performance front skid plate
- Performance mid skid plate
- Front 1-inch leveling kit
- 17-inch high gloss black wheels
- Red recovery hooks
- Black tailgate lettering
- Black Colorado emblems
Does the Chevy Colorado have other production issues?
The only trim levels that had the Trail Boss Package available to them were LT and Z71. Each of them needed to be equipped with four-wheel drive, or the package didn’t come as an option. Additionally, buyers could add the package to any of the three Colorado engine options. Unfortunately, one of the three engines is no longer available either.
Due to a similar issue with parts production, the 2.5-liter I4 LCV gasoline engine is no longer available. The other two engines, a 3.6-liter V6 LGZ gasoline engine, and a 2.8-liter I4 LWN turbodiesel Duramax, are the only ones that remain. The Trail Boss Package was available for each of them but is now completely unavailable.
The 2022 Chevy Colorado fitted with the Trail Boss Package has become much more popular than the automaker thought. Selling three times a year’s worth in just one month is remarkable for any sales metric. We have to say that the black wheels, along with some of the black trim and improved functionality, make it an excellent package to add. As GM Authority first pointed out, the recent SEMA 2021 auto show put the Trail Boss Package on display.
