New cars start depreciating before the ink dries on the sales contract and lose up to half their value in the first two years. However, not all vehicles depreciate at the same rate or lose as much of their value. Cars that have fallen out of favor with buyers depreciate much faster. But popular models can hold their value well, especially if they have desirable features and colors. One of those cars is the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette, which boasts surprisingly great resale value. 

Part of that might be due to limited editions. But much of the credit goes to the 2022 Corvette’s reputation as an excellent, affordable sports car.

The 2022 Corvette retains 59.5% of its value, beating every other coupe and sedan in Kelley Blue Book’s “Best Resale Value Top 10 for 2022” roundup. It also ties for fourth overall with the Ford Maverick, a truck with decent resale value and long order wait times. 

Indeed, the only vehicles that score better in resale value are the Toyota Tacoma, GMC Sierra, and Toyota Tundra pickup trucks. The next nearest car is the Tesla Model X, in the seventh spot on Kelley Blue Book’s list. 

2022 Corvette specs and features

The Corvette has always been a bargain sports car that usually comes with some rough edges. But that’s not true for the current generation. With a starting list price of $60,900, the 2022 Corvette is a powerful mid-engine sports car with exotic looks and supercar performance. Fully load the standard Stingray with the 3LT package, and you’ll still pay under $100,000.  

Most models come equipped with the Z51 Performance Package, which buyers can add to any trim level. It provides bolder front and rear spoilers and a list of performance enhancements, including a sport-tuned suspension, upgraded brakes, and an electronic limited-slip differential. This package also adds a more aggressive exhaust, high-performance tires, and a heavy-duty cooling system.   

Except for the Z06, all 2022 Vettes pack Chevrolet’s evergreen small-block V8. It displaces 6.2 liters and makes 490 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to the generous torque and mid-engine configuration, the 2022 Stingray can zoom from 0 to 60 mph in under 4.0 seconds and top out at over 190 mph.

Part of what makes the Corvette special is its distinctly American flavor with a throaty V8 rumble. But what makes it an icon is its versatility as a track toy or everyday driver. When it’s not embarrassing high-dollar sports cars at the track, it’s happy running errands and handling commuter duty, returning up to 27 mpg on the highway.   

In addition to the fantastic naturally aspirated V8 engine, three other benefits make the Corvette easy to live with. First is the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that delivers lightning-quick shifts and never leaves you feeling like you’re in the wrong gear.

The third and most crucial ingredient in the Corvette’s generous nature is its surprising practicality. In addition to providing a relatively spacious, comfortable interior, it offers an incredible amount of cargo space. Between the trunk and “frunk” under the hood, the 2022 model provides 12.6 cubic feet of storage space, making it one of the most accommodating sports cars on the market. 

But let’s face it. You don’t buy a Corvette for the room. You buy it to drive. It’s a car you can live with daily and still marvel at its performance.
