The Chevy Silverado is one of the most popular pickup trucks in America right now, and for the 2022 model year, Chevy’s making some significant updates. Not only does the 2022 Silverado have a brand-new look on the outside, but Chevy’s also given it some upgrades on the inside. Here’s a look at the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 and its new features.

Like Car and Driver said, many folks buying pickup trucks only really care about how well it works as a work truck. This means looking at a truck’s payload and towing capacity. The latest Silverado is still excellent. One of the significant changes to the Silverado happened under the hood. It now gets a 2.7-liter turbocharged I-4 as standard, and it’s pretty powerful. 

That standard 2.7-liter now gets 420 lb-ft of torque, which is a 20% increase from before. The most significant change, however, happened to the optional Duramax 3.0-liter I-6 diesel engine. When properly equipped, it can now tow over 13,000 pounds, 4,000 pounds more than before. That new max towing capacity also gives the new Silverado a leg up on some of its competitors.

The Silverado gets a big improvement in the interior

Power and towing capacity aren’t the only things that folks look at when shopping for a truck these days. As Car and Driver wrote, folks also care about the interior features they can get in their truck. For the 2022 model year, Chevy’s stepped up its game. This is because Chevy’s added two big screens to the Silverado’s higher trims.

Silverados in the LT trim or above will now get a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster display, as well as a 13.4-inch horizontal touch screen. While it’s not a measuring contest, Car and Driver said that the biggest screens in the Ford F-150 or the Ram 1500 measure around 12 inches at most. More importantly, this is a considerable upgrade from before. 

In the 2021 model year, the Silverado only had access to an optional 8-inch touch screen display on its high-end trims. As such, the new optional touch screen on the Silverado represents a 5.4-inch improvement from before. That type of size difference is big enough to not only look different but feel different, too. The most significant difference between the two model years is far more noticeable than that.

GM finally adds Super Cruise to the Silverado

Semi-autonomous self-driving features are the new high-tech feature that many companies are adding to their cars, and that’s the case with Super Cruise. However, since it’s such a high-tech feature, it won’t be available for every Silverado. According to Car and Driver, Chevy’s currently only offering it for the High Country trim. But, of course, Chevy will likely provide it to lesser trims in the near future.

Like other semi-autonomous self-driving systems, Super Cruise adds a bunch of gadgets and gizmos to the Silverado so that it can drive itself in certain circumstances. According to Car and Driver, Super Cruise will also work when the Silverado is pulling a trailer. However, it won’t change lanes when it’s pulling a trailer.

On top of that, Super Cruise also uses interior cameras. These cameras are there to track the driver’s eyes. Drivers should still pay attention to the road, even with Super Cruise on, and that’s what those cameras try to enforce.
