The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Gained New Engine Options
What an exciting time for the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500. Since the refreshed Chevy Silverado made its debut, it keeps gaining more surprises. Now some of the engine options are being swapped around for the Trail Boss trims.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Trail Boss has new engine options
Currently, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Custom Trail Boss comes with the 2.7-liter turbocharges four-cylinder engine that was recently updated to provide 310 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque.
You can upgrade to the 6.2-liter EcoTech V8 engine with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. These used to be the only two options available for this trim.
However, according to Auto Blog, soon you’ll be able to equip the Custom Trail Boss with the 3.0-liter Duramax inline-six diesel engine. It cranks out 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. It’s expected to add about $2,400 to the price.
The Silverado LT Trail Boss has a standard 5.3-liter V8 engine with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. You can also equip it with the 6.2-liter V8 and Duramax diesel engines. But now the 2.7-liter engine will be the new standard option. As a result, the price could drop by about $1,400.
These changes have been noted in the 2022 Silverado fleet order guide but aren’t available with the Chevy configurator yet.
What comes with the Silverado Trail Boss?
There are two 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Trail Boss options. You can opt for the Custom Trail Boss or the LT Trail Boss.
The LT is the more expensive option, but it includes more exterior upgrades such as LED headlights, body-colored door handles, and 17-inch Bright Silver-painted aluminum wheels. Chrome accents include bumpers, a center chrome grille bar, and mirror caps.
With the Silverado Trail Boss, you get a 2-inch factory-installed lift as well as the components from the Z71 package. It consists of 18-inch high glass black-painted aluminum wheels wrapped in Goodyear Duratrac off-roading tires.
The LT Trail Boss is a little more enticing because it features a brand new interior. It’s crafted with high-quality, luxurious materials and a modern layout. Updated tech includes a 13.4-inch infotainment system, electronic transmission range selector, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.
What about the Silverado ZR2?
If you really want a 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 model that’s equipped for off-roading, then check out the ZR2. It comes with the 420 hp V8 engine that’s available with the Trail Boss models.
It also comes with multimatic spool-valve dampers, 33-inch tires, and electronic-locking front differentials in the front and rear. The high-mounted steel front bumper is accented by red tow hooks.
The bumper contributes to the truck’s 31.8-degree approach angle, making it the best Silverado for off-roading ever. It sits half an inch higher than Trail Boss models too. But it still can’t keep up with the Ram 1500 TRX or Ford Raptor.
Pricing for the Custom Trail Boss starts at about $46,895. The LT Trail Boss raises the price to about $48,695. The ZR2 isn’t available yet, but it’s expected to start at around $55,000. We will update you as we learn more.
