The 2022 Chevy Silverado Duramax Got an Incredible Towing Increase
Incredible beast alert! The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Duramax just got more muscle. The Chevy Silverado Duramax was already strong, but someone decided it wasn’t strong enough. Check out its engine improvements and more.
How strong is the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Duramax?
For 2022, the Chevy Silverado 1500 gained a ton of improvements to tackle rivals such as the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500. Along with tech, interior, and off-roading upgrades, this truck also got more power.
Check out the 2022 Chevy Silverado Duramax flex with its 4,000 lbs maximum towing capacity increase. The Silverado Duramax can now tow up to 13,000 lbs with rear-wheel drive and max tow package. This is a 20 percent improvement. Also, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel can tow up to 12,560 lbs.
This means that the Silverado 1500 Duramax now leads the way with the best-in-class towing capacity. For the record, the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six Duramax diesel engine generates 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
How was the Silverado 1500 Duramax engine improved?
It wasn’t too long ago when we looked into the Silverado’s Duramax engine due to potential cranking issues. But Chevrolet has been working hard to improve the Silverado under the hood. They may have fixed the problems.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Duramax received thermal performance enhancements. This helps trucks operate more efficiently with thermal energy to reduce the chances of overheating and fuel loss.
We guess you could say that the Silverado isn’t too hot to trot. It should keep cool under pressure to tow bigger loads.
Also, the Duramax engine gets an EPA-estimated 26 mpg in the city and up to 33 mpg on the highway. Adding all-wheel drive lowers the rating to about 26 mpg on the highway. It’s the most fuel-efficient option.
Engineers also upgraded the suspension components to help the Duramax engine handle larger loads. The rear springs have an increased capacity, unique damper tuning in the front and rear, and special steering calibrations.
Plus, the rear axle ratio was increased from 3.23:1 to 3.73.1. The engine and transmission were uniquely calibrated to round things out too.
How to get the Silverado’s max tow rating
To achieve the maximum towing capacity, you’ll need to buy the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Duramax diesel with 20-inch wheels. This setup isn’t available with the new Silverado ZR2 yet. But the Z2R could gain the Duramax engine later.
The 2021 Silverado Duramax has an MSRP of about $48,115. This is with the crew cab and standard bed. With all of the interior, exterior, and suspension upgrades, the price for the 2022 model is expected to increase.
But this means that you receive a more excellent interior with more upscale materials. Also, there is a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, Multi-Flex tailgate, and 13.4-inch touchscreen. You can even opt for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
So far, all of the Chevy Silverado 1500 upgrades seem more than worth it. But this truck hasn’t been put to the test yet. We will keep you updated as we learn more.
