The 2022 Chevy Silverado Single Cab Short Box Is Back
We have great news for Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 fans. The regular cabs and short beds are back. The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 short box will be available soon, along with its GMC Sierra 1500 cousin.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado short box is back
Chevrolet has been offering a regular-cab version of the Silverado with a short box in several other markets, but it hasn’t been available in America for years. That’s why we’re excited for the 2022 Chevy Silverado short box to make its return!
Those shopping for a regular-cab Silverado will be asked to choose between a standard and long bed (98.18 inches. The standard option is the shorter variant at 79.44 inches. The short bed that’s 69.92 inches isn’t offered with the regular cab.
Here is the kicker. The short box will only be offered with the Work Truck trim. So, the short Silverado will be the cheapest and most basic work truck option.
Will the Silverado short box have enough power?
We’re still waiting for more information to be released about the Chevy Silverado short box. But it’s safe to assume that the short-box model will align closely with the long-box Work Truck model.
If this is the case, then it will come standard with rear-wheel drive. It could be powered by the 4.3-liter EcoTec V6 engine with 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque. You might be able to add 4×4 and the 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 310 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque.
Don’t expect luxury amenities such as leather upholstery and wood grain accents. The Work Truck has cloth seats, manual windows, a two-speaker sound system, black bumpers, and 17-inch wheels.
But this bare-bones truck has a lot of potential. It will be easy to modify as a muscle or sport truck. You can think of it as a stripper truck. Just imagine how you can personalize the space to fit your individual needs.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 starts at about $32,095. This means that the Silverado shorty could have an even lower price. It’s expected to begin around $30,000, and Chevrolet will most likely reveal the pricing information in a few weeks.
We’re still holding out hope for Cyclone or Montana muscle truck version to arrive. The basic WT model could be used to gauge consumer interest in a smaller truck as compact options such as the Ford Maverick gain popularity.
What else is new for the 2022 Silverado?
As you wait for the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 short box to arrive, you can check out the other upgrades. A new interior is offered with the LT trim and up. The High country benefits from luxurious materials, including open-pore wood.
The updated trims are available with a configurable 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a massive landscape-oriented 13.4-inch touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available as well.
Plus, the new Super Cruise hands-free driving feature will be available. Standard safety features include automatic high-beam headlights, lane-keeping assist, and more. New models should reach dealerships by the spring of 2022.
