One of the best changes for the Silverado includes the addition of the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 trim. But unfortunately, the Chevy Silverado ZR2 may be more difficult to get due to its buying process at dealerships. 

The 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 can’t be pre-ordered 

If you want the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2, then you might have to wait. Chevrolet is not taking reservations or pre-orders for the 2022 Silverado ZR2. That means you can’t set up your order online yet. 

You will have to contact a dealership once it has its regular allocation and launch processes squared away. Then you can purchase your truck through the dealership if it has the proper allocation to allow the order to be accepted by the factory. 

Why can’t you order the Silverado ZR2? 

Not allowing customers to reserve the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 is apparently a good thing. This change comes after people could pre-order other specialty vehicles like the GMC Hummer EV. 

Megan Soule, Director of Chevrolet Trucks and Full-Size SUVs, shared that the determination of whether or not a brand takes reservations is totally a case basis for each GM brand. It’s dependent on several product and business factors. 

She explained that there wasn’t a specific deterrent, just a brand business decision not to do it. Chevy is confident that this is the right move for the Chevy Silverado ZR2, dealers, and interested customers. 

Well, she didn’t exactly explain the benefits of this move, but perhaps it makes the truck more obtainable? It will help dealerships, at least, as they are currently struggling with inventory issues.

The ZR2 should be available by the end of Q1 2022. But Megan didn’t share how many models will be available. 

With the annoying semiconductor chip shortage, inventory could be limited. If you don’t see one at the dealership, see if you can order one of the allocated models. Also, the Trail Boss could be a more widely available alternative. 

Is the Silverado ZR2 with the wait? 

Yes, the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 is worth waiting for. It’s the most capable off-roading Silverado ever. Pricing will be released when the models arrive, and it’s expected to start at around $60,000. 

The ZR2 is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission. It generates 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. When properly equipped, this truck can tow up to 8.900 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,400 lbs. 

This beast is boosted by a 2-inch life and rides on 18-inch wheels that are wrapped in 33-inch tires. The ZR2 package includes Multimatic 40mm DSSV spool-valve dampers that are paired with uniquely tuned springs to enhance suspension travel. 

Every Chevy Silverado ZR2 uses a four-wheel drive system with a two-speed transfer case and electronic-locking front and rear differentials. The underside is protected by unique skid plates, and the high-mounted steel bumper improves the approach angle. 

The ZR2 is only available with the crew cab, so you’ll benefit from plenty of cargo and passenger space. Plus, there’s a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 13.4-inch touchscreen.

We’re still waiting for the official price, but the ZR2 seems to provide plenty of value. This ordering system could be helpful or inconvenient, but it’s worth going to a dealership to get behind the wheel.
