The 2022 Chevy Tahoe Falls Short in 1 Crucial Area
The three-row SUV competition for the Chevy Tahoe is really starting to heat up. New competitors such as the Jeep Wagoneer and redesigned Toyota Sequoia are spicey rivals. Plus, it doesn’t help that the 2022 Chevy Tahoe is behind the competition.
How much power does the 2022 Chevy Tahoe have?
The standard 2022 Chevy Tahoe engine is a 5.3-liter V8 engine with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 6.2-liter V8 engine for 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. That’s a pretty good amount of power, but you have to pay to upgrade to this engine.
Also, the Tahoe is one of the few options with a diesel engine. You can opt for the 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine for 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
With the 2022 Toyota Sequoia, you get a 3.4-liter V6 engine that’s paired with an electric motor to crank out 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque.
The standard 2022 Ford Expedition engine is a 3.5-liter town-turbocharged engine with 380 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. This engine provides 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque in higher trim levels.
So, when compared to these options, the Tahoe doesn’t have as much power. The base engine and larger options are lacking a little.
How much can the 2022 Tahoe tow?
When properly equipped, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe can tow up to 8,300 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,972 lbs. This is an excellent amount of power for hauling trailers, boats, and campers. However, rivals can haul more.
The 2023 Toyota Sequoia can ow up to 9,520 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,730 lbs. So the Tahoe does have a bit of a better payload rating. Also, this towing power is up from 7,400 lbs with the previous generation.
With the 2022 Ford Expedition, you can tow up to 9,300 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,758 lbs. It looks like the Tahoe’s rivals are taking advantage of their extra power to pull heavier trailers.
But the Tahoe does come with a few towing perks. For example, there are 13 available camera views to provide more visibility. The views include a rear trailer and a transparent trailer view, so you can see behind it and check on your cargo.
The trailering package includes an integrated brake controller, a high-capacity radiator with a cooling fan, a hitched guidance system with a hitch view, and the helpful Chevrolet trailing app.
How much does the Chevy Tahoe cost?
The 2022 Chevy Tahoe starts at about $52,000, which initially seems a little pricey. But the 2023 Toyota Sequoia costs $59,795, and the 2022 Ford Expedition costs about $51,560. So, you can at least save if you don’t need the Sequoia’s extra muscle.
Adding four-wheel drive to the Sequoia and the Tahoe costs $3,000. So, pricing for both of these SUVs can start to climb pretty quickly. Both of the highest trim levels top out around $76,000.
The Tahoe is still a great SUV to consider as a family hauler, daily driver, or work vehicle. You can save some money with it, but it doesn’t come with as much power. Perhaps it will receive some engine upgrades soon.
