If you’re in the market for a large SUV, head to the experts to find the best options. In this segment, Chevrolet offers two models, the Tahoe and Suburban. It’s not surprising to see one of the two amazing models at the top, but it is surprising the other is dead last. Why does one automaker make JD Power’s worst and best overall large SUVs? The 2022 Chevy Tahoe ratings have it in first place, but the 2022 Suburban is dead last.

The 2022 Chevy Tahoe is the best large SUV

According to JD Power, the best overall large SUV is the 2022 Chevy Tahoe. It’s very impressive that it outranked popular models like the GMC Yukon, Toyota Sequoia, and Ford Expedition. Using the experience of current and previous owners, JD Power finds out what’s so good about each and every model. Customers love the driving experience and that the Tahoe maintains excellent resale value.

Furthermore, its overall fuel economy is good for a large SUV and helped the Tahoe ratings. Next, there is ample storage and passenger space inside. Owners want tons of room for everyone and everything from their large SUV. That’s exactly what the Tahoe does very well. Moreover, owners also love the experience of using the voice assistant software. It’s helpful for making calls, using navigation, and anything else you might need while operating the vehicle.

Why is the 2022 Suburban dead last?

Contrarily, the other Chevrolet large SUV is the worst model in the segment. JD Power ranked it dead last, scoring it a 78 out of 100, a few points behind the Tahoe, which earned an 83. Primarily, owners disliked the quality and reliability of the Suburban. JD Power says the level of defects and design flaws for the infotainment system, engine, and everything else is just too high.

Furthermore, owners report it isn’t easy to maneuver the vehicle in and out of parking spaces. For it to be and enough that many owners say the same thing, the Suburban’s agility is clearly underwhelming. In addition, the engine feels underpowered. Since it comes with a V8 option, we’d think this would be one of the strong points. However, JDP reports quite the contrary. Lastly, many owners say the Suburban doesn’t keep the vehicle’s interior at the desired temperature. This is an oddly specific complaint, so it must be troublesome.

JD Power: 2022 Chevy Tahoe is the best large SUV

JD Power has very different opinions of the two Chevrolet large SUVs, as shown in the Tahoe and Suburban ratings. For the Tahoe, it’s more reliable, higher quality, and an overall better model to own. On the other hand, the Suburban is unreliable, filled with problems, low quality, and frustrating to own. Buying the right large SUV can be challenging, and so can purchasing the right Chevy large SUV.

Experts don’t all agree on which of these models is better than the other. However, JD Power is an excellent source because it uses customer and owner satisfaction surveys to determine its results. Real owners of the Tahoe and Suburban liked the former much better than the latter. If you’re interested in a Chevy full-size SUV, JD Power’s 2022 Chevy Tahoe ratings say you should buy it over the 2022 Suburban.
