If it weren’t for the extra 14 inches of wheelbase on the Suburban, the Chevy Suburban and Tahoe would be identical twins. They share quite a few features, including paint colors. For the 2022 model year, both are losing the same three hues. Which colors are they, and will there be replacements?

Which colors are no longer available on the Chevy Tahoe and the Suburban

Of all the exterior paint colors the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban have to order, there are two that have bid farewell and will no longer be available. One is the Satin Steel Metallic, a color option that came with no cost added to the vehicle purchase. The other was the Cherry Red Tintcoat color, which you could opt for with a $495 charge. 

While these two were available until mid-May, they will not likely return for the 2023 model year due to the supply shortages. It looks like more vehicles are losing those color options as well. The Camaro, Traverse, and the Silverado are also losing the Cherry Red Tintcoat, while the Acadia, Cadillac’s CT4, and CT5 are losing the Satin Steel Metallic. 

The Evergreen Gray Metallic color is also unavailable on many GM models. According to GM Authority, that exterior paint tone was a $495 add-on, like the Cherry Red Tintcoat, and was an option for the full-size SUVs. 

What colors can you choose for your 2022?

We may be losing those exterior paint colors. However, a few were added this year to the long list of other color options available. 

For the 2022 models, you can customize your Tahoe or Suburban with:

• Summit White
• Dark Ash Metallic
• Midnight Blue Metallic
• Iridescent Pearl Tricoat
• Black
• Empire Beige Metallic
• Auburn Metallic

The newest ones Chevy added are the Dark Ash, Auburn Metallics, and the Evergreen Gray Metallic. However, three new colors will show up for the 2023 Tahoe model. 

These include the Radiant Red Tintcoat, Silver Sage Metallic, and the Sterling Gray Metallic, which sound pretty familiar to the ones being discontinued. 

What can we expect with the Tahoe and Suburban this year?

The Chevy Tahoe, as well as the Suburban, come with three powertrain options to choose from. Those include the 5.3-liter L84, naturally aspirated V8, 6.2-liter L87 V8, and a 3.0-liter Inline six turbodiesel Duramax. For the 5.3 and 6.2-liter engines, a new version of the 10-speed automatic transmission will get paired. The new tranny has a controlled overdrive and a Traction Select system. The previous 10-speed transmission will continue with the Duramax one only. 

The Tahoe got some added driver’s assistance features, like parking sensors for the front and the rear, automatic high beams, and lane-keeping assist. Chevy also added a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, which is larger than the previous model. Along with that is the new Google assistant system with Android apps.

The Suburban got many of the same upgrades as the Tahoe, but a few are specific to this full-size SUV. For example, Chevy added more camera angles for viewing, and Buckle to Drive, GM’s way of encouraging seat belt use by not allowing the vehicle to run without the driver being buckled up. 

Both the Chevy Tahoe and the Suburban will likely impress full-size SUV enthusiasts. However, for the 2022 model year, there will be fewer paint color options to choose from when ordering your new vehicle.
