The 2022 Chrysler 300 vs. 2022 Kia Stinger: Which Sedan Is Right for You?
If you want a large sedan with lots of charm and available all-wheel drive (AWD), it’s difficult to top the Chrysler 300. However, Chrysler’s doomed-to-be-discontinued 300 isn’t a lone prospect for car shoppers who want space and character. Enter the 2022 Kia Stinger, an unlikely contender from an unlikely marque that constitutes a solid alternative to the 2022 Chrysler 300. So, considering factors like value, power, and safety, is the Chrysler 300 or the Kia Stinger right for you?
Does the 2022 Chrysler 300 have a Mercedes engine?
The latest Chrysler 300s offer three engines starting with a 292-horsepower 3.6L Pentastar V6. That engine is standard across the 2022 lineup. However, for fans of deep bassy V8s with higher horsepower figures, the range-topping 300S offers an optional 363-horsepower 5.7L Hemi V8. Finally, the next and last model year for the Chrysler 300, 2023, will offer a fire-breathing limited edition 300C with a 485-horsepower V8.
While the 2022 Kia Stinger doesn’t offer a V8, it uses its power to move with a serious purpose. The entry-level GT-Line produces 300 horsepower from its turbocharged 2.5L four-cylinder engine, and MotorTrend says it’s enough to hit 60 mph in just 5.7 seconds. However, the real performer is the twin-turbocharged, 368-horsepower 3.3L V6-powered GT2, which will smash a 60 mph sprint in just 4.6 seconds.
While that’s quick, it’s not fast enough to beat the swan-song 300C’s 4.3-second dash. However, the GT2 will beat a V8-equipped 2022 Chrysler 300S to 60 mph; the eight-cylinder Chrysler will make the run in around 5.3 seconds. So if you want the quickest 2022 sedan of the bunch, the Stinger GT2 is the king of the hill.
Is a 2022 Kia Stinger worth it?
A 2022 Kia Stinger is worth it; the 2022 Kia Stinger starts at around $37,435 for the entry-level GT-Line. Moving further up the lineup equips the 3.3L V6; TrueCar says the GT1 and GT2 start at $45,035 and $52,635, respectively. While the GT2’s starting price seems steep, it’s a four-door sedan nearly as quick as a Ford Mustang GT. Better yet, the Stinger offers optional AWD and 23.3 cubic feet of cargo volume.
Compared to the Stinger, the 2022 Chrysler 300 has less cargo volume but a more accessible starting price. The entry-level Touring trim starts at $35,140, up to $43,750 for the range-topping 300S.
How safe is the Kia Stinger?
The 2022 Kia Stinger earned a Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). That means the sports sedan achieved “Good” ratings in every crashworthiness category and good marks in other crash prevention and mitigation segments. However, the comparable Chrysler 300 failed to earn a similar rating from the IIHS. Unfortunately, the 300 scored a “Marginal” rating in frontal impact testing and a “Poor” rating in headlight performance.
Is the Chrysler 300 going to be discontinued?
In more disappointing news for 300 fans, the 2022 Chrysler 300 will be one of the last of its kind. Chrysler will discontinue the 300 after the 2023 model year. Furthermore, the 2022 Kia Stinger is a safer, faster, and more practical sedan than the Chrysler family car. Still, both cars offer different engine choices, available AWD, and handsome styling.
