The era of the gas-powered sports sedan is coming to a close, but only after models like the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody had already proved their mettle. However, the 2022 Dodge Charger is far from alone in the segment. Enter the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, a turbocharged four-door family car with Ferrari energy. So which of these two fire-breathing super sedans is the better option? 

Does the Giulia Quadrifoglio have a Ferrari engine?

The 2022 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio carries over the turbocharged 2.9L V6 from the previous model years. Alfa Romeo collaborated with Ferrari on the engine design, packing the same bore, V-angle, and stroke as the Ferrari California’s V8. Also, Alfa Romeo mounted the twin turbochargers in the V of the engine, not unlike the Ferrari F154 engine. The result is a 505-horsepower four-door Giulia with performance to match its looks. 

Despite the Quadrifoglio’s vast power reserves, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat has the Giulia model topped. The Mopar sedan produces 717 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque from its supercharged 6.2L V8. That’s not even where the lunacy ends; the Redeye variant pushes the horsepower figure up to 797. 

What is the 0 to 60 time on an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio?

Even though the two super sedans are separated by over 200 horsepower, their 0 to 60 mph times are comparable. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio can sprint from 0 to 60 in just 3.6 seconds on its way to an 11.9-second quarter mile. 

That’s right on track with the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat’s times. According to Car and Driver, the supercharged Charger can hit 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds with an 11.4-second quarter mile. That makes the Charger model faster accelerating than the Quadrifoglio and the two-door coupe Challenger Hellcat. Incidentally, the traction limitations of the more powerful Redeye added a tenth of a second to its 60 mph sprint.   

How much is a Hellcat Charger Redeye?

The 2022 Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye Widebody starts at around $87,540. Additionally, the lower-trim Hellcat Widebody starts at about $78,940. 

The Dodge models are comparable to the 2022 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. The striking Alfa Romeo sports sedan starts at around $80,425. However, Alfa Romeo added the Estrema trim between the Veloce and Quadrifoglio for 2023, which starts at about $57,015. Unfortunately, the Estrema goes without the Quadrifoglio’s V6, although it does get elements of the range-topper’s handsome carbon-trimmed interior.  

How does the Dodge Charger Hellcat’s interior compare to the Giulia’s?

Slipping into the cars reveals the stark difference between the vehicles’ interiors. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio’s interior wears handsome carbon fiber, leather, and suede. Moreover, the Giulia’s cockpit is modern and stylish, with a pleasing layout and appealing brushed metal components.

While TrueCar reports that the Giulia’s infotainment system is a bit dated, the 2022 Dodge Charger Hellcat’s entire interior is overly-familiar. The model’s cockpit hasn’t had a significant update since 2015, and the simple layout is a bit lackluster compared to the Alfa Romeo. Still, the Charger’s Uconnect infotainment system is user-friendly and straightforward.    

What year will be the last Hellcat?

Unfortunately, 2023 will be the last model year of the Dodge Charger, including the paradigm-altering Hellcat trims. However, Dodge is releasing several “Last Call” models to celebrate the Charger and Challenger.

Both the Charger and Giulia models are top-tier sports sedans with space for five people and tire-roasting engines that send power to the rear wheels. Still, the Giulia is more elegant and efficient than the Dodge Charger. However, the Hellcat’s hilarity and character are difficult to ignore.
