Since reentering the market in 2006, the Dodge Charger has regained its iconic muscle car standing in American culture. Dodge’s performance sedan offers a host of options that can take it from an affordable ride to a supercharged beast. And if you’re looking for a brand-new Charger, Edmunds’ reviewers say three models are the best of the lineup.

Which trims does Edmunds recommend?

The 2022 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody Jailbreak is a beast of a muscle car

Among the many 2022 Dodge Charger trims and models, three stand out for Edmunds: the Scat Pack, the all-wheel drive GT, and the SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody Jailbreak.

Reviewers frame the Scat Pack as the recommended spec. Edmunds cites the base price, 6.4-liter V8, performance standards (including the limited-slip rear differential, upgraded suspension, brake components, and launch control), and interior upgrades as big pluses.

However, if you live in an area where winter weather can provide challenges, the AWD GT is a great alternative, Edmunds explains. Though it offers less power than the Scat Pack, the GT looks identical and provides a slew of optional upgrades that still keep it under the Scat Pack’s price.

Edmunds names the SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody Jailbreak the emotional choice of the three. Considering the raw power from the supercharged V8 and the customizable exterior and interior options, Edmunds reviewers call the SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody Jailbreak a tribute to “old-school muscle car performance.”

Now that you know Edmunds’ picks, here’s a rundown of the 2022 Dodge Charger lineup, including pricing and more details about the above three trims.

2022 Dodge Charger SXT (MSRP: $32,500)

The base-model Charger, the SXT, packs a 3.6-liter V6 engine. It produces 300 hp with an eight-speed automatic transmission, Dodge says.

It’s not all power, though. ABS, stability, traction, cruise control, rearview cameras, and emergency braking assist are several of the many standard safety features.

In addition, find a six-speaker sound system, USB connection, and leather or cloth sport seats. The Charger is even comfortable for taller drivers

Dodge offers multiple upgrades for the SXT, including AWD (an additional $3,600) and the UConnect system ($995).

2022 Dodge Charger GT ($36,870)

The Dodge Charger GT has the same powertrain as the SXT but sits on 20-inch wheels instead of 17s. The cabin boasts a premium sound system, HD Radio, and a Wi-Fi hotspot as standard features. And for an extra $3,000, you can add AWD.

2022 Dodge Charger R/T ($42,095)

Stepping up from the GT to the Charger R/T means a big bump in power. The V6 becomes a 5.7-liter V8 making 370 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque. That bigger engine comes with a slight drop in fuel economy (from 21 mpg to 19 mpg combined).

2022 Dodge Charger Scat Pack ($47,820) and Scat Pack Widebody ($53,815)

Another trim level upgrade means another power boost. The V8 is now 6.4 liters and produces 485 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque. That translates to another drop in gas mileage: 18 mpg combined.

Inside, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are now standard instead of optional.

The Widebody option adds fender flares to accommodate wider tires, a modified suspension, and an SRT-tuned engine. Edmunds reveals this model is the most popular among Charger buyers.

2022 SRT Hellcat Widebody ($78,595), Hellcat Redeye Widebody ($87,195), and Hellcat Redeye Widebody Jailbreak ($88,190)

For the 2022 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, the Widebody package is standard. And though the engine is a touch smaller — 6.2 instead of 6.4 liters — it’s much more powerful. It harnesses 717 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque thanks to a supercharger. The SRT Hellcat can handle turns well, too.

Inside, expect leather seats and driver’s aids such as blind-spot warning as standard features.

At more than double the price of the standard SXT, the Charger Hellcat Redeye Widebody packs an enhanced engine, pushing the V8 to 797 hp and 707 lb-ft of torque.

Finally, for a slight price increase, Dodge offers the Jailbreak. This upgrade provides various ways to personalize your Charger inside and out. Plus, you get a whopping 807 hp.
